Summary: Typical fluff Booth (he/his/him) consoles Brennan (she/her) after she finds the dog
She wandered away from them, the lump of hurt and disgust rising in her throat as she approached the old, wooden cage. She peered at the sunken hole that had the familiar patches of white bone sticking through the dirt.
Her hand prickled with the pain of small splinters from the gate, but her gaze remained focused on the small pit.
He followed behind her, catching the gate as it swung closed behind her. Following her gaze, he realized what she was looking at.
"What is it?" He voiced, his question asked only to announce his prescence. He already knew what it was that had drawn his partner's attention.
"He said that the dogs fight to their deaths...so I should've expected this." Her hand lifted limply to point out the pit. Their gazes met, her full of tears, pain and sorrow, his full of sadness and pity.
He called the team over and they took photos of the remains as she explained what they had found.
"I'll see if we can trace the betting slips, find these people and charge them," he siad softly.
"Yes," she sighed. "That would make me feel better, if we did that." She shifted and glanced down at the items in his hand, not really seeing anything.
His eyes followed her movements sadly.
"Hey, Bones..." He said quietly, reaching out and cradling her soft cheek in his palm.
"I'll get this guy for you. I promise." Her blue irises were clouded by tears, and one slid down her cheek. He pulled her closer into a hug, and she rested her head on his chest. She let her tears flow, for all the poor animals that had died for sport. It was unfair that the innocent beings, 'Man's Best Friend', were being abused.
She felt his thumb rubbing her shoulder, and was surprised that she didn't mind. It was oddly comforting to be in his arms, and to know that he cared. He pressed his lips softly on the top of her head, and felt her shiver. He leant his cheek against her head then, and sighed.
"I'll get him, Bones. I will." She pulled back and looked into his eyes, searching for any hint that he coulnd't fufill his promise. All she found was care and geif.
"I know."
"Agent Booth! We found something!" They turned to Ceasar Milano and the moment was lost.
Yet, they both would always remember it.
