In Light at Night

A nightly breeze blew, ruffling Katara's parka and tickling her chin. She scratched at her face absently and drew further into her parka. The night was cold as it usually was in the Southern Tribe, seeing as they all lived on a block of ice. The water below her was still, reflecting the bright moonlight of Yue. She lifted her face and smiled at the heavenly body, feeling the slightest of warmth emanating from the light.
A sound of crunching snow made her ears perk. She turned to it and saw Sokka approaching. He joined her by the water's edge.
"Good evening," she greeted, turning her attention back to the full moon.
"Hey," was all he responded. She glanced at him and noticed his facial hair was beginning to get out of hand. But no matter what she said, he refused to shave it. She remembered a time when he wore a fake beard and passed as a Fire Nation citizen. But that was a long time ago, when they were traveling with the Avatar and he was still with Suki.
"What do you need?" she asked her brother. Sokka shifted until he was crouching over the water.
"Do you believe in the whole 'love conquers all' thing?" he asked. Katara threw him a quizzical look.
"What do you mean?"
"I think… I feel that Yue is still out there." Katara scoffed at him.
"Of course she is— she's the moon spirit." Sokka didn't meet her gaze.
"Yeah but I haven't seen her in so long, it's hard to still believe." Katara smiled.
"As long as you truly believe, you will never be wrong." She took a glove off and held her hand over the water which acted as a perfect mirror to the moon above. Slowly, she moved her hand in rhythmic patterns, causing the still water to ripple and bend with her movements. The moonlight that reflected in the water shimmered, and it appeared as if a million lights were dancing in the water.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm dancing with Yue. See those lights? She's still here."
