He shivered as the wall of thoughts hit him. It ebbed and flowed like an ocean while people moved around him. He was annoyed that he'd agreed to come tonight. His sister told him if he didn't go, someone he needed to know would die before he ever could.

He followed people around the room mentally. Watching and waiting. His family had always been invited to the parties Jessica threw at the end of the summer, but now he actually had to go. He cringed as some sort of synthetic music started playing over the speakers in the house. People here were all dancing around someone he couldn't get into the head of.

He started to move. Following the thoughts that didn't include her, until he found her in the center of the house, dancing. A vampire. He tensed, ready to drag her out, until he watched her spin around, smiling and laughing. He melted. He cursed his sister. Then started into the crowed, he awkwardly bumped into people as he tried to get to her. Then she was moving to him. "Hey there." She said just above the noise of the music. He found himself shocked that she had red eyes and was still in a crowd of people like this.

He watched her tense as she realized what he was, but found himself saying "Dance with me?" Instead of explaining.

She smiled, and then nodded, but stopped short when he took her by both hands. SHe pulled away, shaking her head and shimmying. "You don't know how to dance?" She asked.

"I do." he insisted, then realized that he didn't know how to dance like the people around him.

"Tell you what," She offered, "I'll show you how to dance and you explain those." She pointed at her own eyes to punctuate.

He nodded, smiling as she pulled him into the crowd as a new song began to play. She moved, and he followed her rhythm. She She showed him a few steps. The grabbed his hands and positioned him behinder her as she continued to shimmy. This time, she turned around, and smiled every few seconds. "You got this?" She asked.

"Yeah," he murmured as the thoughts of people around him, mixed with her movements made it easy to get a hang off.

"Good," she smiled, swinging her arms around his neck as the music changed again. Slower, but similar. He rested his hands on her hips, and smiled into her eyes.

She waited, and he realized that wanted him to explain right there. "No," He shook his head, "I'm here to make sure you don't do something that gets you killed my the Volturi."

"The who?" She asked. She pulled away a bit.

He was about to tell her he could explain if they went out back when there was a sound of shattering glass mixed with the shouting and screaming of people in the room. The dance floor cleared, and he saw a gruesome sight. Someone had fallen into the glass table and torn their leg open.

He put his hands around the girl just in time. Holding her tight and pulling her away as she started to fall to bloodlust. She began to struggle when they got into the next room and he impulsively did something he wouldn't have tried elsewhere. He kissed her.

SHe at first struggled, still thinking about the blood in some capacity, then she melted away and focused on him. SHe pulled away out of habit and breathed before coming back into him. She pecked at his lips as he guided her to a sliding door that led to a patio. "How did you know that would work?" She asked.

"I had no idea." He murmured, as he sat her down on the concrete. People inside were all focused on getting the girl to the hospital. "It was an impulse."

She nodded, then held out a hand, "I'm Bella."

"Edward."
