Happily Ever After
A Note from Me
DISCLAIMER The characters in this fic are not mine. They belong to J.K. Rowling and the movie people. I wish they were mine but the aren't.
This Chapter is really short, but they will be much longer in the future
Harry sat, hunched over and lifeless, his eyes, which had once sparkled, were now cold and hopeless. They gazed out into the distance, but were not focused. His body shuddered as a hard knock sounded on the door to his office, but he made no attempt to answer.
The knocking continued, and finally with a groan, he said "Come in"
The door swung open, and Hermione Granger bounced in. She smiled sadly down at Harry and said "Harry, you have to be reasonable, you need to go home and get some rest. You look like you just died."
"I AM FINE. I DO NOT NEED YOU BREATHING DOWN MY NECK AND TELLING ME WHAT TO DO."
"Yes Harry, you do. You are killing yourself."
"Well, there really isn't any reason to live..."
"Harry! There is plenty of reason to live. What are you talking about? Your friends, your admirers, Ron, Ginny..." and after a pause "Me."
"Voldemort is dead. I've fulfilled my purpose. Sirius is dead. It's my fault. He was my only family. I killed him." "Oh Harry, it's not your fault. Sirius knew what he was doing. He sacrificed his life for a cause he believed in. With his whole heart. He would have wanted to go like that, fighting to the last."
"That doesn't make him any less dead. Or it any less my fault. I did what I was here for."
"Harry, if that was all you were here for, than why are you still here?"
"I DON'T KNOW. LEAVE ME ALONE."
A tear slid silently down Hermione's cheek, but she turned around and left the room without another word, quietly closing the door behind her.
The moment she had closed the door behind her, Ginny grabbed her arm, and quietly said "Are you okay 'Mione? No, no you're not, you're coming with me."
"I'm okay Gin, don't worry about me."
"I am worried. Ever since Harry came back you're been in a right state. We're taking the day off. We're going to have a girlie afternoon."
"Gin, you know I can't, I have to finish up with the papers for Peter's sentence. And you have a meeting with Draco in twenty minutes."
"I canceled it. And Dennis is finishing your papers."
"How could you? You know as well as I do that Dennis is overworked..."
"And you aren't?"
Still holding Hermione's arm, Ginny dragged her out of the office, ignoring her loud protests. Ginny hauled Hermione down to the nearest fireplace and grabbing a hand full of Floo powder shouted "The Leaky Cauldron."
They tumbled out of the fireplace in the center of the Leaky Cauldron's main room, and as Hermione dusted herself off, Ginny ordered each of them a butterbeer. She proceeded to carry them to a table in a back corner and Hermione sullenly followed.
