Sam smiled at Carly with a pride that all could notice. They left for a moment. That smile disappeared after he returned.

Carly felt a little upset that she had hurt Sam, but it was worth it. She couldn't keep his baby. She couldn't allow a child to grow inside of her. She wasn't ready for this commitment and she knew she wasn't right to raise a child.

The solution was easy: get an abortion. The problem was her extreme phobia of them, The only one she allowed remotely near her was Ratchet. So, after being forced to tell Sam the news, and then the other news, they were on their way to the autobot base.

The ride was silent, with Bee silently inquiring why the whole way. After a couple minutes of no reply he stopped. The mood was tense as they walked up to the medbay. She turned to her boyfriend.

"Sam, I love you. Please remember that." She pleaded.

He nodded stiffly, and she knew it wouldn't be all right. "Love you too." Then he was gone, and she was alone.

Carly took a deep breath before entering the large room. Ratchet's holoform was bent over a table, his hands flickering at an untraceable speed.

"Ratchet?" She called tentatively. He looked up from the table and smiled at his favorite human.

"Hello there Carly. What brings you here today?" He brushed off his hands and stood up.

She wasn't sure if she could ask in his joyful mood.

"I-I'm pregnant." She said, her voice cracking.

His face absolutly shone.

"That's wonderful. How far along are you?" He led her over to an examination bed. She followed willingly.

"Three months."

"Great. I should be able to tell gender by now. I can also show you it's appearance if you like."

Her mouth hung open as tears sprung to her eyes.

"Please," She sobbed. "Please don't. I- I need an abortion."

Ratchet froze in place, his smile stuck. A second later, he flickered out of existance. His towering form appeared a moment later.

He lowered his hand and Carly stepped on it. He seemed to lift her more gently than usual.

"You want me to give you an abortion, don't you?" His voice was gentle.

She nodded with tears in her eyes.

"Before anything else happens, let me tell you a story." Now, Carly was confused. What did a story have to do with anything. Still, she complied, knowing that everything he did had a reason.

"Long before this planet was born, long before we came here, we had children too. They were called Sparklings. They were created in acts of love, or they were given from the Well of allsparks. During the war, they were protected as sparklings were now produced less often. Until they weren't." He paused, before continuing. "Megatron destroyed the refugee centers, which were full of Sparklings and femmes. He made our race practically infertile, and doomed to die out."

Now Carly felt bad about the abortion. Could she really ask Ratchet to destroy a young life when they could never have any?

He placed her on the ground. A moment later his holoform flickered back on. He didn't look at her as he walked back over to his work desk. When he turned around, he held a small, metal body. It was at least three feet tall, but still looked like an infant.

Tears were in his eyes as he spoke. "This is a protoform. That is what we place the spark of a newborn Cybertronian into. We are one step closer to creating life again. One step closer." He sniffed before gingerly placing the body back down.

"Do you still want me to give you that abortion?" He asked, no bias in his voice.

"I don't think I can ask you too." She said as she left. The Medbay door closed softly behind her as she entered the hall. She wasn't sure she had it in her to kill it anymore.
