Germany and Italy were walking down the street. Italy held flowers in one hand, and one of Germany's hands in the other. They were headed to a special place. Well, special to Italy anyway. This would be the first time Germany had gone with him on a visit.
The day was February 15, 1810. Italy still remembered it like it had only happened the day before. He was cleaning the house, back when he still lived with Austria and Hungary, and they had both told him to just take it easy and let them take over. This was strange at the time since they had never told him to just let them do it, but he did as he was told and went to draw in his room.
After a few hours they had knocked on the door before entering, saying they had news. He knew it wasn't good, he could tell by the looks on their faces.
"Italy" Germany said as he squeezed Italy's hand and pulled him out of his thoughts.
"Si?" Italy said as he looked around to see they were almost there.
"Where exactly are we going?"
"You'll see"
They pushed the gate open and walked down the trail for a few more minutes. The entire walk had been in silence. Italy didn't really like this fact.
After walking a little further they came to a gravestone in the cemetary. Italy then kneeled down and placed the flowers on the little grave. After placing the flowers he sat back on his heels and read the gravestone.
Holy Roman Empire
December 25, 800 AD
August 6, 1806
Italy read the words over and over again, remembering the little empire. He felt tears run down his face a quickly wiped them away. Germany then knelt beside hime and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Italy, why did we come here?"
"Because this is the day when he left for war. He made a promise and in some strange way, it feels like he kept it even though he didn't"
Germany nodded in understanding.
"You can head back to the gate if you want, or you can stay here it doesn't matter. Mi dispiace for dragging you here" Italy said as he looked to Germany.
"I'll give you some time alone and wait for you by the gate" Germany said as he stood up.
As he started walking toward the gate he still managed to hear the words Italy whispered:
"You tried to keep your promise I know that, but it still hurts not having you here with me. Ti amo, Holy Rome. I hope you're in a better place now"
AN: ok so this is my first ever oneshot. It's a little sad and depressing and I'm sorry I didn't intend for it to be that way but my mind just tends to run whenever I get random ideas in my head. I know I need to be updating, but school just started so it's been a little harder to come up with ideas. I am also working on a collab fic. Anyway sorry for the depressing oneshot and I will try my best to get the other stories updated ASAP, but no promises. Also, I looked up the information for HRE's grave on Google so no promises it's right. The date that Austria and Hungary supposedly tell Italy about Holy Rome was picked randomly, well the year was but the month and day are my birthday so I just used that.
