Aftermath

A/N: Too sad for me. Excuse me while I go drown in my tears. -sob-

Warm liquid moonlight spilled through the gap in the heavy curtains, illuminating a lily-skinned petite body barely covered by dark sheets. Lush blonde eyelashes rested serenely on pink dusted untarnished cheeks, and a small flower petal delicate hand lay loosely curled by a slightly upturned nose.

Atemu half-lay half-sat by his minute lover, his carmine-coloured eyes half lidded by the aftermath of passion. His tanned face was the picture of pained peace, his elegant lips twisted in a sad, loving smile.

Yuugi.

The once ruler of Khemet sighed softly, a lone strand of rebellious gold fluttering from the breath. His love muttered something too soft to hear in response to the lingering thought and snuggled deeper into the dark pillow beneath him, his left leg sliding like a butterfly snake over Atemu's calf before resting beside it.

Even in sleep Yuugi reassured himself that Atemu was still there, existing beside him.

"My aibou…" The darker whispered, lifting a long fingered hand to hover over pure angel skin. Still, even if they were not touching, Atemu could feel his hikari's inner warmth, his inner softness and love.

It broke his heart that he would be leaving this heaven.

Yuugi cooed softly, as if sensing his lover's despair and helplessness. His dishevelled hair moved slightly as he moved towards his other half, splaying out on the soft material. The movement, soft and unsurprising as it was, brought Atemu's hand in contact with angel wing soft skin.

The extra warmth on his palm was part of him.

Atemu felt crystal raindrops welling up in his eyes, and he refused to blink them away as his pride demanded. He let them freely fall down his cheeks as his heart ached, but not a sound breeched his lips. He didn't want to leave, he didn't want to forget, he didn't want to wake up in the beginning and not find Yuugi's unbelievably soft presence next to him, he didn't want to not see those beyond beautiful deep-lilac dyed eyes ever again, he didn't want to let their love go…he simply didn't want to leave his Yuugi behind.

He needed Yuugi. His light, his soul, his love, his heart, his life.

Even as his chest constricted and his muscles tensed, his hand on Yuugi remained exceedingly gentle and tender. His fingertips traced blind small circles on painfully familiar skin, as his soul joined his mourning.

Because even if he didn't want, Atemu knew that in the end he would have to leave.

Amethyst eyes blinked open, and dawn broke.
