Hermione strolled down the alley leading towards the apartment she shared with her husband Ron. After the war had ended, they had decided to try a relationship, and just 2 years later they were married. She now worked at St Mungo's- the best wizarding hospital in England. It was a good job, with good pay and some great people- it just wasn't the job she dreamed of. To be perfectly honest, she never would have pictured her life being anything like this. Not that it was bad, she had just always thought that she would travel the world, and learn about all the different cultures before settling down and opening her own business. Instead she was married at 24- soon to be having kids if Ron had his way- and stuck in the same routine. There just wasn't any excitement in her life.
She walked into her apartment, heading towards the fridge to grab herself a quick snack before starting on dinner. She worked long, hard hours at the hospital and often returned home very tired, but Ron had quidditch practice at odd hours and generally expected some food prepared for him whenever he got home. Admittedly, she often felt a bit overworked, juggling her demanding job and her home life, but she wasn't really one to complain. As she was rustling around the cupboard, searching for some ingredients she heard some strange noises coming from the bedroom and froze on the spot.
It had been years since they had won the war, but she still had nightmares and flashbacks, and her instincts hadn't left. She crept down the hall, making sure to keep her footsteps light and her muscles tense. Once she reached the bedroom, the noises had intensified and she flung the door open, her wand at the ready and a curse at the tip of her tongue. What she saw was more devastating than she could've imagined. Her husband was on top of another woman, in her bed.
"RONALD WEASLEY!' she yelled furiously. Finally he looked up, shocked. He quickly got up, still fumbling around trying to untangle himself from the bed sheets. As he clumsily attempted to preserve some dignity, her attention was drawn towards the woman that had been fucking her husband.
"Cho? How could you do this to me?" Hermione exclaimed.
"Mione, it's not what it looks like it's jus-" Ron is immediately cut off by his soon to be ex-wife.
"Not what it looks like… NOT WHAT IT BLOODY LOOKS LIKE?! Then what the FUCK is it? Perhaps Cho came by to look for me, the door was open so she came in. She wandered into the bedroom, to find that you had just gotten undressed. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, you fell on her. Is that what happened?"
"Yeah, Mione… that's what happened!" Ron and Cho let out a sigh of relief with the excuse they had been given.
"Oh that's all fine and dandy then- anyone care for a cup of tea? Oh no wait a second you brainless idiots- Your little excuse doesn't quite account for how Cho got naked. And also, Cho- being my ex best friend knew my working schedule off by heart. So- are there any more idiotic excuses, or can I just skip to the part where I throw you both out and let you face the wrath of Harry, Ginny, Molly, Arthur, Charlie, Bill, Fred and George?"
"Ugh listen here Mione" Cho sneered "we tried to be nice to spare your feelings but OBVIOUSLY you are not mature enough to just move on. The truth is- this is all your fault! You can't blame Ron for doing something that you drove him to with your prudish ways. He needed a REAL woman and I was there to help him."
"Yeah! She's right- you're always 'too tired' for sex and its not my fault that I had to go to someone else to get my needs fulfilled. You know, Mione, you really aren't a very good wife. You're lucky that I put up with you, without me you would be all alone. It's not exactly like you have men lining up for you, is it?" Ron smirked cruelly before continuing on "So, let's just agree to move past this. Yes, I'm going to fuck other women but maybe if you made more of an effort I might pay some more attention to you. Now, lets put this silly argument behind us and you can just go back to making dinner."
SMACK!
"How dare you blame this on me! It's not my fault that you are a disgusting, egotistical, pathetic excuse of a human being. You both have 10 seconds to get the fuck out of my house, or I swear to Merlin you will both wish that you had never been born" Hermione threatened as she glared at the traitorous couple.
Ron and Cho stood shocked for a moment before Hermione jabbed her wand at them, prompting them to begin scrambling around, frantically throwing their clothes on before separately apparating away.
As silence settled throughout the room, the shock and anger wore off and Hermione collapsed onto the ground in a sobbing heap. This is how Harry and Ginny found her when they apparated over 10 minutes later.
"Oh Hermione!" Ginny exclaimed "what has my dickhead brother done to you?! Harry, look at her! Oh my brother will pay for this, I will make sure of it if it's the last thing that I do."
Harry sighed and crouched down to Hermione's level and said
"I'm so sorry Mione, no one deserves this, but especially not you- don't ever blame yourself for this, because this is all on him. I'm just so sorry we didn't realise what an arse he was sooner."
Hermione didn't reply, and just continued sobbing for the loss of her childhood friend and the man that she had thought to be the love of her life.
A/N: Hey guys, as most of you will have realised, this isn't technically a new chapter. Earlier this year I got stuck in a really big writing rut, and found myself unable to gather the motivation to continue working on this story. I knew I wanted to continue this but I just wasn't sure how to go about it. I tried taking a break, and writing other stories, experimenting with new ideas and different fandoms but it just took me further away from this story. Eventually I realised that in order to take a step forward I was going to have to take a few steps back. I've never been very happy with this chapter, and I admit I'm still not entirely set on this- but it's a start. I'm happy to say that I am going to be continuing this story and new chapters will be arriving…one day. Unfortunately for all you guys, updates aren't going to be super frequent, and I can't promise that they're going to be the best quality in the world- all I can say is that what I give you guys will always be what I think is the best I can produce, and I'm always happy to listen to advice and ideas. A MASSIVE thanks to all the readers, reviewers and favouriters(?) who have stuck with me throughout this- it means a lot to me and I look forward to hopefully hearing from you in the future.
X Alli
