A/N: seriously short oneshot about how I think the show should have ended.
Disclaimer: I do not own Gilmore Girls.
Rory watched through the window of her mom's jeep as Stars Hallow grew smaller and smaller in the distance. It was sad to think how long it would be before she got back. That wasn't to say that she wasn't exited, just a bit sad at the same time.
"I'm going to miss you." Lorelai said, breaking the silence.
Rory tuned her head to look at her mom. A silent tear fell down Lorelai's cheek. Rory smiled sadly and nodded "Me to."
They didn't talk much for the rest of the drive; both knew that if they tried to speak they might just break down crying.
The jeep pulled up at the bus stop. Rory would be boarding a bus full of other reporters assigned to the Obama campaign. They would be on the road for a while, could be months, could be years.
Rory grabbed her bags and lugged them to the luggage compartment beneath the bus. And with one last tearful 'goodbye' she boarded the bus. She looked for an open seat, there weren't many, maybe seven, and all of them already had one person in the row, so much for getting a row to herself. She looked over her options and chose one in the back (remembering what Lorelai had said about the people there being friendlier.) The person sitting there was looking out the window. He was blond, maybe about 23 or 24 and he didn't seem to notice her presence.
"Excuse me" she said, trying to catch his attention. "Is this seat taken?"
"Nope, go ahead." He replied, still looking out the window.
Something about his voice was familiar, although she couldn't place it. Rory sat down and pulled out a book. The bus doors closed and the engine rumbled. Finally the man looked up. Rory looked at him and gasped.
"Mary?" he asked.
