Summary: One-shot. He was falling. Falling further into her. She was his drug, and he was getting addicted. Something he could not allow.
----
He liked watching her.
It was beyond him as to why he did, but he did. Maybe it was the way she smiled, how her eyes would immediately light up when she saw him. Or the way she walked; full of confidence, a strong yet graceful stride.
He especially liked her hands, they were not the dainty small hands that most women had, but strong calloused hands. Hands roughened through time with their constant use in martial arts. They were artistic hands, long and slender, like piano hands.
That's when he knew he was in trouble; he was falling for her, and he was falling hard.
He needed to stop this; it wouldn't do him any good if he got attached. Besides, she deserved someone better. Yet even when he reasoned all this in his mind he did not stop seeing her. She was like a drug, and he was quickly getting addicted and addiction wasn't something he could afford. Once the drug was taken away, everything ended for you.
So when she wrapped her arms around him he wanted to push her away, but drew her closer instead. When she kissed him he needed her to leave, but asked her to stay.
It needed to end. So he purposely left the unfamiliar perfume on his shirt the next day. He told himself that it was the right thing to do, he wasn't suited for her. He told himself that she'd get over it, just like he would. They would both move on.
So when the time came he refused to see the hurt in her eyes as she yelled at him and asked why. He refused to deny her accusations, untrue as they were. He refused to breakdown and beg for forgiveness. He tried convincing himself that her tears didn't tear him up inside. He tried to convince himself that because he was the one who put that broken look on her face he didn't want to die ten times over.
Before he left he stole one last kiss.
As he walked down the street that night he felt for the small ring in his pocket. He'd pawn it off at some shop tomorrow.
It wasn't her size anyway.
