A/N: it may be a little OOC but this fuckin idea has been haunting me for days, please have mercy on me. You can either imagine the OVAs or the DNT renditions, it still works anyways.

Prologue: A Place One Must Go
"Your Excellency, there has been a message for you." Oberstein said with his usual tone of indifference.
"Who is it from?" Reinhard replied without looking up from his work.
The older man pressed open the message on his device and handed it to Reinhard. "It's from a neighbouring starzone, but it isn't under any rule. Neither the rebels nor the Empire would invade or conquer it, due to the ongoing war that they themselves are going through. One of the commanders on that planet would like to have an audience with you."
The blond man read through the message from a person named Wakamatsu. He sounded a little desperate to talk to him, which Reinhard expected, but one part of the message did intrigue him, something about an unknown object named 'mental cubes' and he was willing to exchange information for it. "Is there any benefits to me being there?"
"Your Excellency could convince him to side with the Empire, but that should not be your focus. We can't afford to help out that place, it would take up a good amount of the military funds and-"
"Alright, alright, I hear you…" the younger man put his hand up to silence his right-hand man. "Inform Mittermayer and Reuental, they are to follow me to this planet." Oberstein silently bowed before he made way to the Twin Pillars and notify them. As the doors of the office close, Reinhard leaned back into his chair as he fiddled with the medallion that hung around his neck.
'Days like these are when I miss Kircheis the most…'
