I'm in control.
The chains around her wrists and ankles shackled as she tugged and pulled and heaved, the rusty metal digging into her flesh as she strained to keep Jasper under control. Control, control. Keep control. She felt a tug from down beneath her, and she pulled harder, pulled faster, as much as she could muster. The tension disappeared with one final pull. Lapis' strength diminished, and she collapsed into the puddle of murky blue-green water. She lay as still as a calm river, but her heart and thoughts roared as loud as the ocean waves.
The world had always been a dull pallette of greens and blues ever since they became Malachite.
A heavy sigh escaped her chapped lips, and she waited for the silence to creep in. Slumber made her wary, almost careless in its presence. Lapis loosened her grip. The weight of the world slowly faded into the air around her, the air that she breathed in. The air she shared with Jasper. The constant, never-ending battle with the other gem had left her restless, and perhaps, after the struggle, after the long, painful struggle, she could, at long last-
Hush.
In her lying state, Lapis heard a low rumble, as if it came from within the sphere she was in. The sound grew louder, echoing throughout. It reached her ears, and pricked at her skin, and struck in her chest, and sent shivers down her spine. The seconds turned to hours. Lapis, who had never heard such a terrifying sound, remained frozen and unmoving. The rumble crescendoed and manifested into a roar, a thunderous, mighty roar that shook her heart. Lapis tightened her grip. She shouldn't have let her guard down. Jasper attacked, her strength dominating the war-weary Lapis, and now Lapis was neck-deep in the water, barely able to breathe.
I've lost control.
