Oblivious
It was hot.
Like really, ridiculously, stupidly hot.
Sora wiped his forehead with the hem of his shirt, thinking longingly of the cool shade of home as he, Riku and Kairi lounged beneath a palm tree at the base of Mt Kasaisan. Kairi had fled her home for the day—her parents were cleaning the place from top to bottom, and she wanted no part of it—and had dragged her boyfriend and best friend out into the intense summer heat with her.
Riku tried to blow his hair out of his face, and failed miserably; it stuck to the sweat on his forehead, forcing him to actually lift his hand and push it aside. "Do you think it would rain if we tossed Sora in as a sacrifice?" He asked Kairi, jerking his head toward the summit.
Kairi laughed. "No." She shook her head, grinning mischievously. "He doesn't fit the criteria anymore."
Riku's grin turned wolfish, making Kairi's cheeks turn pink as he laughed. "Oh really, now?"
Sora watched the exchange with bemusement, blinking slowly as Riku patted him on the back, laughing, as if he'd done a good job. "Huh?"
Kairi rolled her eyes. "Honestly, Sora."
Later, in the middle of dinner with his mother, Sora's cheeks began to burn as Kairi's meaning sank in.
Is the joke too subtle? I feel like the joke's too subtle.
