Rose wove her way through the corridor, dodging a scared-looking 1st year. She checked the large clock looming in the middle of the hall. Bullocks, she thought, I'm going to be late! She sped up, looking like a orange comet streaking through a sea of black robes. BAM. She looked up, about to apologize to the person who's books were scattered all over the floor. Uh-oh. Its HIM, she thought. Of all people, why HIM?

Scorpius Malfoy smirked. "Watch where you're going, Carrots"

"If I had half a brain, I wouldn't go around calling me names. You just might get detention, Ferret." Rose threw back, adopting the nickname her dad called Draco.

"Oooh, I'm so scared. Carrots might give me detention. What will I ever do?" he drawled. Albus, his best friend after they were both sorted into Slytherin, snickered. Rose glared at him, even though they were on good terms. Why did Scorpius have to be an arrogant git all the time? Rose pondered. Why pick on me?

"Maybe its because you're the only one that could compete with him, you know, academically. I mean, you're the top of the class, but he has beaten you on a few tests" Rose's best friend Lena Dornico said. Lena was a dramatic and outgoing muggleborn, the Drama Queen of their dorm.

"Or it could be because he is head over heels in love with you." The girls turned to stare at Sadie. She was usually the logical one, the one who never went on flights of fancy. Lily snorted into her pillow.

"Ferret? Have a crush on ME? Where has your brain gone?" she joked. But something was nagging Rose in the corner of her brain. What if he did? A little voice inside her said. Would you really mind all that much?

Scorpius was in pain. The girl of his dreams saw him as nothing more likable than a dementor. Which is partially your fault, the annoying voice in the back of his head said.

"Oh, shut up!" Albus turned towards Scorpius, alarmed.

"I didn't say anyth-"

"Never mind. She just is getting on my nerves." Scorpius muttered.

"What was that," teased Albus, "trouble in love?"

"Mate, I'm not in love" grumbled Scorpius.

"Suuure…" Albus was under the (slightly warped) impression that Scorpius was fated to marry Albus's cousin. But that was neither here nor there if Scorpius didn't do something fast. He had seen her giggling about that "tall dark, and handsome" bloke yesterday with her little gaggle of friends. He still remembered that pang of envy that left his insides felling like granite. It's not his fault that his dad was Draco Malfoy, prior Death Eater. He should be able to admire the way her eyes glinted when she tosses back a biting retort. The way her hair sashays behind her when she walks. Should be able to look at her like any other bloke. A sigh escaped his lips before he could stop it. Oh, what was a guy to do?

What was a girl to do? Rose was laying in her soft mountain of a bed, way too awake for this time of night. She couldn't get Scorpius Malfoy off her mind. Every time she closed her eyes, there he was, that signature smirk ghosting his chiseled features, his crystal blue eyes sparking like magic… NO, she mentally scolded herself. Scorpius Malfoy is a insufferable, infuriating, taunting, rather intelligent, slightly attractive… Oh, what was a girl to do?
