She was pretty when she was asleep.

Not that she was any less pretty when she's awake. Just when she's screaming at him that her beauty was questionable.

Oh fuck it.

She was always pretty.

Mako watched her sleep. Korra's breathing was still a little bit unsteady, but Tenzin promised that she would recover quickly.

"I just want you to wake up," he mumbled. "Just please wake up."

"What're you gonna do when she wakes up?"

Mako turned to see his brother standing in the doorway of Korra's hospital room. Bolin looked expectant. "Are you going to say something to her?"

"Uh… no. I just want her to wake up… so that.. I can… see her wake up." Mako nodded firmly. Yes. That was why. Of course.

Bolin shrugged. "It's whatever man. Just figure out what to do with yourself. You're a mess."

"Right."

Mako didn't know what he was doing.

Ever since finding Korra again—after nearly losing her to that bastard Tarrlok—he hasn't been the same.

On edge. Overprotective. And stubborn.

Mako refused to leave her side. He was going to stay there—beside her.

Like he was supposed to be.

"Asami's really worried about you." Bolin walked over and put a hand on Mako's shoulder. "You need to get some fresh air. And you need to talk to Asami."

"You're right."

"And you really, really need a shower, so get on that too."

Mako punched a grinning Bolin on his way out.

"Thanks."
