Normally I'm not one for crossovers... but this idea came to me and I couldn't resist.
The first rule was never to let anyone know where you were from. That was vital.
The second rule was something Riku had made up for himself, and for him, it was far more important than the first:
Never get attached.
He rather liked the attire of this world. It reminded him of the stories he had read of knights and dragons and magic when he a boy, playing hero and sparring with Sora. In fact, everything about this world was like a fantasy come to life. Why hadn't he come here before?
He had to admit, he felt a surge of pride, looking at himself in the mirror of the small inn room he had rented only today. The cloak wrapped around him just screamed mysterious and sexy and he thought it fit him. After all, he was a stranger in this world.
The chainmail underneath the cloth was heavy on his limbs, though it was the lightest he could find. It was certainly better than the big plate mail he had seen on those men outside the church… or whatever it was called here. He preferred to be quick on his feet, rather than strong in his arms.
When he was done admiring himself in the mirror he sank back onto his bed. It wasn't terribly comfortable, but he was in no position to complain. He wouldn't be staying here long, anyway. Tomorrow it would be time to move on – not to another world, though; not after he had only just arrived. He was curious about this world, and there was much exploring to be done.
Ferelden was cold, and Riku learned the hard way that magic was not tolerated here. Losing his pursuers in the forest was easy enough, but now he was lost. The farther south he travelled, the more the air smelled rancid with darkness.
It was different than what he was used to. Having been around darkness for so long, having been so much a part of it himself, he had grown used to the stench. But this scent seemed to be emanating from the very ground itself, unnerving. It made him want to vomit at times.
Night came and Riku still hadn't found the road. This was the kind of forest, he knew, where you didn't want to be alone at night. It didn't take long for the giant spiders to appear.
"Shit." The keyblade-master swore as he rounded a tree, sprinting. There were at least three behind him, and he had already taken out two. He had cast a fire spell on one, and stabbed the other, but he could feel his mana draining, and running seemed like a better idea.
He swiveled around and shot an ice spell at the nearest one, freezing it in its tracks, before turning behind another tree, huffing. He ran for a few more minutes before sliding to the ground, exhausted, back against a tree.
When no spiders had appeared and he had caught his breath, Riku stumbled to his feet and began walking again, right hand clutching Way To The Dawn. He couldn't have made it twenty feet before he felt a pain in his chest. He looked down to see and arrow sticking out of his flesh. He gasped in pain, looking up as his visions became fuzzy.
The last thing he saw before he black out was a group of human-like figures moving towards him.
