Meryan P.O.V
I could feel the whip lash across my back. Fresh pain radiated, tears of blood trickled from my raw back. "Where is your dragon!?" The harsh voice I had learned to despise demanded. I grinned weakly as I answered, " She is everywhere and no where all at once." The whip lashed across my back again. I winced as whatever part of skin remained was torn away from the vicious attack.
"We will find her and destroy him, as well as the other rider who evades us. We will slowly peel each layer of flesh from the scum who tries to evade the mighty Galbatorix!" The voice said. I wouldn't look the man in the eye; he had fell to the seduction of power and now truly believed what he said. I knew he would do everything in his power to serve the evil traitor that had murdered so many.
Even as the vicious attacks continued, I could feel something trying to break through the iron defenses of her mental being. I refused to cry, but was trembling from the effort of breathing. After a few more vicious attacks , the man left for the night. He left me trembling, each breath of air hurt. How did I get here? I asked myself. i knew the answer all to well but let the events play over in my head anyways.

(Three months before)
Laughter...Laughter which seems so useless to me now, echos off of the bark of trees. As George and I practice our training together, our dragons fly high above together. My blue sword that matched the color of a cloudless sky clashed against his deep, mesmerizing red blade. I found myself unable to focus due to the beauty of the blade.
The scarlet blade screeched up my own, sparks flew and my nearly translucent blade flew out of my hand. George pointed the magically dulled tip of his elven-made sword at my throat. " I win..." He said with a cocky grin. I glared at him for a moment but after a few minutes of looking into each others eyes we found ourselves in a giggling mess.
What is so funny, little one? I heard the voice of my dragon echo in my head.
I was beat by George! I said, snorting a laugh. Tanis snorted, And you find that funny? Assert yourself to that boy! She roared. I smiled ,Will do Tanis, Will do.
"Are you ready to be beat again?" George taunted. I blew a strand of my light-blonde hair out of my face. My blue-green eyes gleamed with eagerness, " I just went easy on you George! I could beat you any day!" I laughed. The mere memory of the feeling sent a warm feeling spread in my chest.
After a few more sorry defeats on my part, we decided to put an end to our playful practice. We removed the spell that dulled our blades.
We began to make our way back to camp, where our master was resting when I heard Luthar, George's dragon roar in our heads, NO! DO NOT RETURN! THERE IS TERRIBLE DANGER! DESTROYER OF EGGS! MURDERER! A large roar was emitted from the sky. Tanis and Luthar were diving down, they red dragon landed a few moments before the pale blue one. I looked in the directing of camp. I heard a distraught roar of a large-sounding dragon. "Eridor!" i screeched. Eridor was our master, Alan's dragon. I began to run in that direction where the screech of metal was clearly heard from this for away.
Luthar roared in protest and swooped me into his claws, UNHAND HER! Tanis demanded with a snarl, She will be killed if she returns! Luthar growled. The two continued their argument and george Murmured the words,"calm and sleep until told otherwise." in the ancient language. I felt a sudden drowsiness sweep over me and I immediately fell into sleep.
