The daughter of Nike tipped the scales. She should not be alive. Nemesis would never allow it. But so few seem to remember that the odds are always in her favor. She is a child of victory after all.

Arya should not be alive. She should have died with the others. She should have died when that bus went off the Santa Monica Pier. But she didn't. She was the only one who burst to the surface of the water gasping for breath, and swimming to the dock as ambulances and police cars came flying to the scene. She was whisked away to the hospital. She never saw her best friend Alicia again.

Two weeks later she had found herself the newest camper at Camp Half Blood. Two days later she was claimed as the daughter of Nike, goddess of Victory. Two years later, she had never lost a fight. Two weeks later, she was being hunted. Nemesis had had enough. The girl had been far too lucky, far too long. She continued to avoid disasters and avoid injury like a person with Achilles curse.

Nemesis hunted her for days. Then months. Then years. Arya evaded death for days. Then months. Then years.

It was on March 7th that she stopped running.

It was on March 7th that she turned to Nemesis with a smile on her face that Nemesis would never forget.

It was on March 7th that she looked at Nemesis and spoke to her, "I tipped the scales. I evaded death. I escaped a watery grave. I am ready to die."

It was on March 7th that Nemesis struck down the half blood who had avoided her wrath for so long.

It was on March 7th that they both won.

People often spoke aloud their curiosity as to why the daughter of Nike hadn't won. They wondered how it had happened because children of Nike didn't lose. They were too naïve to understand.

Arya didn't lose. The daughter of Nike tipped the scales. She should not have lived. Nemesis wouldn't allow it. But so few seemed to remember that the odds were always in her favor. She was a child of victory after all.
