Yuki glanced around to make sure no one was watching and happily skipped out of school. Today he would be alone at the house and he would get some alone time with his best friend, an old bowl of crispy rice cereal. He could hardly keep from screaming out.
The bowl of cereal was truly unlike anything he had experienced. Fondly, Yuki remembered when he first made it. He was a young boy, fraught with responsibilities boys of his age shouldn't have to deal with and also frightened from staying out of Akito's way.
He had sat down and poured a bowl of his favorite cereal. At the time, he was alone, truly a precious gem in the Sohma house at the time. He began pouring his heart out to the cereal, feeling silly at first, but then after a while he realized he couldn't eat this cereal.
He had just poured all of his true feelings out to it, cried softly while he held the bowl in his small, bony fingers. He would never have this friendship with a man, and at the time he assumed that there was no way he would ever get along with a girl.
He knew that the cereal would be disposed of if it was discovered, so while he still had time Yuki walked swiftly into the middle of the forest with a box and the bowl of cereal. He called some of his rats to help him create a safe hole for the cereal. Yuki smiled when he knew it would be safe.
As often as he could, the young rat boy would go to the forest and dig up the box to talk to his dear friend. It heard all his troubles, all his true feelings, things he would never tell anyone. It sat there, never reprimanding, never hating, just listening.
The cereal watched Yuki grow older and more mature, but it was always #1. Yuki went to middle school and then high school and the cereal bowl still remained Yuki's best friend. He had only told the cereal, which he had named Mr. Crisp, about Tohru a few times. He could finally get his feelings out.
He opened up the sliding door and did a small dance when he confirmed there was no one in the home. Tohru was going with Kyo to protect him from Kagura, and Shigure was at some pervert hentai convention. Yuki shuddered.
He noticed a note for him on the dinner table. He picked it up, barely caring, anxious to talk to Mr. Crisp. 'HEY IDIOT' and then in a nicer handwriting 'Excuse that, it was Kyo. This is Shigure, I'm just telling you that I won't be home until late at night. Also, I was looking for my treasures that I hid earlier and there was a weird bowl of cereal in your closet. I got rid of it for you, but please try to keep cleaner in the future. Anyways, tata! ~Doggy'
Yuki dropped the note in pure horror. "No" he said barely above a whisper. It felt like centuries passed as he ran down the hallway. He burst open his door and threw open the closet. He looked in the spot where Mr. Crisp always was. Not there. "No. NO!" Yuki cried, now searching frantically for his best friend anywhere, but he already knew the truth.
He curled up in a ball and laid on the floor. Suddenly he felt himself turn into a rat because of his emotions. He sat in the corner, tears soaking his soft light gray fur. "Mr. Crisp..." He whispered softly. "I'll always love you forever.. You'll be in my heart always."
And not caring what anyone would think of him when he came home, Yuki Sohma sat for hours, switching from human and rat, and eventually cried himself to sleep.
