"Geez, I just hope the kids won't make any comments 'bout the ears." A heavy sigh escaped from Joan Green's lips, knowing her four boys all too well. "Tell me more 'bout her, Mom."
Kathleen Tucker sensed the nervousness of her eldest child. Shaking her head slightly the older woman replied almost equally nervous. "I told you everything. More than once. I've met her only one time before and that for just a few hours." She faced her daughter. "There isn't much to tell. Just that your brother loves her."
Joan sighed again. "The only Vulcan I've ever met was my ninth grade chemistry teacher and I'm sure a toaster has more emotions than that guy."
"Jo!"
"I'm just afraid to do something wrong and insult her by accident. Or one of the boys does. Or Jason." Her expression grew more terrified. "You said shaking hands is all right, didn't you?"
Kathleen polished the fork again, not knowing what else to do with her hands. "I think so. I hope you told the kids to don't hug her."
"More than a hundred times."
"The ebooks about Vulcan culture say Vulcans are obsessed with their personal space." The older Tucker continued. "And they don't touch anything with their bare hands – not even their food." Kathleen laid the now sparkling fork back into the drawer and started her task with another cutlery. "And they don't like talking during dinner. In any case, small talk is illogical and a waste of time in their eyes and when they are talking, they want to get to the heart of the subject".
Again a sigh from the younger one. "I'm just glad that Jamie couldn't make it. He gets every conversation to its heart."
"Yeah, your brother's mouth lives its own life." This comment caused some chuckles to escape from Joan and unwound the tensed situation.
