Boudicca was born in 30 A.D. in South East England. Her name means "victory". When she was older she was taught fighting alongside the boys. This is something they do were she was born. Boudicca was described by Cassius Dio, "very tall. Her eyes seemed to stab you. Her voice was harsh and loud. Her thick, reddish-brown hair flung down below her waist. She always wore a great golden torc around her neck and a flowing tartan cloak fastened with a brooch."She is always described as wearing a gold necklace and a broach fastening her cloak. This is very normal because, the woman were she was born wore lots of jewelry.
Later, when she was 18, around 48 A.D., she married Prasutagus. Prasutagus was the leader of the Iceni tribe in South East England. Rome had attacked South East England, but they allowed Prautagus to remain king as long as his kingdom remained peaceful and they paid their taxes.
When Prasutagus died around 60 A.D., the Romans decided that most property that belonged to the important people of Iceni was theirs. They also stripped Boudicca of her clothes and was beaten in public. During this time, Boudicca said, "I was whipped by the Romans when they tried to take our lands and now I am fighting for my freedom. Think how many of us are fighting and why. We must win this battle or die. Let the men live as slaves if they want. I will not."
Horrable things happened to her young daughters. Then they put a Roman Governor to rule there.
Boudicca led a revolt while the Roman Governor was away; other city's joined the fight. They destroyed Colchester, a city in England. Meanwhile, the Roman Governor who was put in rule heard the news and fled to London. He had correctly guessed that London would be their next target. Boudicca's army destroyed London and went on to successfully destroy St. Albans.
Some people believe the more than 70,000 people were killed in the three cities that were attacked. Rome regrouped their army and fought the revolt off. It is unsure about the way Boudicca died. Some people say she poisoned herself because she knew that they had lost. Others say that she got sick and died. Regardless of how she passed away, she was an amazing woman with a courageous altitude, and a brave sprit, even when she was losing her battle. She was not afraid to fight for what she believed was right.
In America today, we need more woman like her. If we did, our country would not be facing the things we are facing today. I hope that in later years of America someone will step up and save our country. Boudicca was truly an incredible woman
