Ok this is my first Bleach fanfic. I've been working on Naruto for a while and figurerd I felt up to writing about my favourite character, Matsumoto.

Anyway, I did my first cosplay, as Matsumoto, and on top of that I'm going to be an Aunt

This is mainly about my viewes and what Matsumoto would be feeling after Gin leaves.

Duty

It had been less than a week since Ichimaru Gin had disappeared to along with Sōsuke Aizen and Kaname Tousen. And the reality of what had happened had yet to sink into the mind of Rangiku Matsumoto, who sat by the window of her Captains office sipping from her bottle of sake.

Her strikingly soft sky blue eyes glazed over with confusion and disbelief. Her pale ginger hair hung limply down her back, greasy from sweat and not being washed, the corners of her pale lips would casually twitch into a frown.

The drink that lessens pain and helps when you're stressed, or so she once believed, her beloved sake. At this moment, however, Matsumoto wasn't sure if the drink would help her. She had just received a crushing blow and with every sip it seemed that the memory of her friend's betrayal came back just as vivid as it at that moment.

Ichimaru Gin had betrayed the Soul Society, the place he had lived.

She blinked her eyes and felt the cold stinging of tears prickling behind her glazed eyes.

Ichimaru Gin betrayed the other Soul Reapers, those who were his comrades and peers, his friends.

Her breaths became shallow and came out in small pants as she blinked back the tears that had filled her eyes.

Ichimaru Gin had betrayed her.

Her, Matsumoto, who had stood by him and defended him when people made insults, her, who had tried her hardest to study to keep up with him so that he wouldn't leave her behind.

But he did.

He left her standing there as he was lifted towards Hueco Mundo with the others. Left her standing there feeling numb and unsure as to what she should do.

What should she do?

It was at this moment that the reality sunk in and the pain she had tried to keep at bay swept over her in just a few seconds.

Her shocked hand dropped the half full bottle of sake, she didn't even hear it smash on the ground, breaking into several hundred pieces, because at same time she herself was breaking.

Her now empty right hand reached up to her chest and clutched at the area above the heart. The pain had washed over her like a bucket of slush, the cold stinging her body causing unimaginable pain, and her eyes now blurred by the tears she had wanted to hide.

She drew her knees up to her chest and rested her head atop her knees, her body shaking fiercely from her broken silent cries.

She did not love him, of course she cared for him deeply, he was her friend who had saved her from starving when they were both young, but she did not love him like a lover.

She respected him though, more than any other man she had ever known, more than her own Captain.

But now he was gone and so was her respect for him. She has a new feeling for him, pity. Pity he had chosen power over friendship, pity he was blind and senseless.

Pity that they no longer have the friendship they had all those years ago when they first entered the Academy.

She'll be stronger now and when the time comes and it is their turn to face each other in battle she will not let on how he hurt her, she won't show him the kindness she normally shows him.

No, next time she will cut him down like he had with his comrades, his former comrades.

It is her duty, as an old friend.
