Many mutants are sent off for some form of education/training on their abilities to possibly become an X-Man, however, most go on as normal people, usually hiding their gifts from the rest of the world. Alina is an in-between, but now she's decided it's time to help protect others rather than cower in the shadows. Unfortunately, she has to deal with Wade Wilson. Or worse, herself.
