A/N: Well, this was a random idea that came to me at exactly 10:30 at night. If you like where it's going, please review. Possibly, I will revise the first chapter and add unto the story if people review.
Who was she, this mysterious girl? He had this sense that he knew her, but could not recall the name. She smirked. "You don't know me, do you?" she taunted. "But I know you. And you will come to know me soon. Be ready, my darling."
He awoke with a jerk. Another dream about that weird lady. I really need to tell the cook to cut down the caffeine, he thought with a smile. Gene Davis slowly crawled out of bed, weighed down by the devastation of getting out of bed. He inched toward the door and checked the mirror. He had always had a strange fascination with that mirror. It called to him and he was always tempted to look at it. Not in the mirror at himself, but at the actual mirror.
Shrugging the feeling of unease off, he continued on his journey to the kitchen. His breakfast waited, and obviously his stomach wasn't going to wait any longer he noticed as it complained. Opening the door to the kitchen, Gene came straight face to face with himself. No, not actually himself; his twin. Or his pessimistic side. Oliver Davis.
"Good morning, Noll!" Gene exclaimed cheerfully.
Noll gave him a stony look. A piercing one that could have cracked the beautiful mirror with a single glance.
"Looking chipper as always!" Gene tried again.
Noll turned away, back to the newspaper where he was reading about the stock market. Of course, he had already predicted the numbers for today. He was just looking at it to avoid communication with his twin. Not that they needed to communicate.
Noll and Gene were psychics. Weird as it sounds, they had a telepathic connection that was probably strengthened through being twins. Noll could feel Gene prodding at the borders of his minds.
"Go away," he thought a dangerously clear voice.
Gene recoiled. Noll was in an especially bad mood today. He could feel the psychic power unstable inside of Noll. Gene was disappointed. Today was supposed to be the day he would break the news to his adopted parents and his brother.
He would be leaving soon. To Japan. He aimed to find Noll and Gene's biological parents. He nervously glanced over at his brother again. From his twin's indifference, Gene could tell that Noll was going to strongly oppose this plan.
"Who cares," he thought. "I am going on this trip no matter what. Even if I have to go alone."
"Yes, you will indeed be going alone," the woman's voice spoke. "And you will die all alone, without anyone. All alone. Yes, you will feel the pain of being all alone. And your brother will feel it with you. You will be able to share your last moments with him. It is inevitable. Not even you can stop it now, even though you had control over your destiny at one point. Treasure the precious time you have left."
