Prologue
Rory Gilmore fell pregnant with Logan's child, but only found out after she'd turned down his proposal. Logan decided he didn't want anything to do with her, or the baby, so Rory moved back to Stars Hollow.
Nine months later, Lucas Jess Gilmore-Danes was born. Only Rory called him Lucas while everyone else called him LJ. Everyone thought LJ stood for Logan Junior, not many people knew he was named after Luke and Jess; two of the most influential people in Rory's life. LJ didn't even know.
LJ had Logan's blonde hair, but Rory's blue eyes. He didn't like school much and often had a hard time applying himself. He took after Rory a lot, but also his father. He was told that's where he got his alcoholism from. LJ had only seen his father three times before and that's why he drank.
He was known as a playboy at Chilton and had slept with three girls. He was only 16. LJ loved to flirt and annoy girls, but this was all at school. At home, back in Stars Hollow, he was the town prince, never did a thing wrong. LJ was two people and he rarely let the two sides crossover, if he did, he'd probably be a well-rounded guy.
Jess Mariano was pissed off after Rory kissed him at Truncheon Books open house and left with no word. He went back to his ex-girlfriend and tried to forget the whole thing. A few months later Jess' girlfriend Kylie got pregnant and they decided to get married.
Nine months later, Jess was working on his next book and had his phone switched off. When he eventually turned it back on he immediately rushed down to the hospital. When he got there, Kylie was lying in bed with a baby girl in her arms. Jess held his daughter for the first time; her name was Jessica "Jessie" Holden Mariano. Kylie was pissed Jess wasn't there for the birth, so she named their daughter after him, because she knew he'd hate it, but she wasn't counting on her own daughter hating it. Kylie called her Jessie, while Jess and her friends called her Holden.
Holden had her mother's dark blonde hair and Jess' chocolaty brown eyes. She was smart and extremely well read. She attended public school in Philadelphia and took after her father more than her mother. They were constantly joined at the hip, they did everything together.
Holden was a good student. She had good grades and a good rapport with all of her teachers. Life was good for Holden until she turned 14. Her mother was diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately died a few months later. Holden and Jess were upset, but they managed to get through the next year and half before Jess decided they were moving to Hartford. Holden wanted the change as well and celebrated her 16th birthday at her new home in Hartford. She was to start school at Chilton tomorrow.
Chilton Teaser
Jess pulled up to Chilton and stopped the car.
"You don't have to go, you know," Jess said to his daughter Holden. "I could always home school you, what do you say?"
"I like school, dad," Holden replied. "That and you work from home."
"So?" Jess questioned. "I'll teach you important life skills that you won't learn at school."
"Sure," Holden replied unconvinced. "Go home and write. Your publisher's going to kill you if you miss the deadline again. Don't worry I'll be fine."
Holden got out of the car and headed towards the school.
"Act Slutty," Jess yelled from the car.
"What?" Holden asked confused as she headed back.
"They have a tendency to call new girls at this school Mary," Jess explained. "So, act Slutty."
"How do you even know this?" Holden asked her father. "Was it in the brochure?"
"No," Jess replied. "I have my sources."
"Okay," Holden replied skeptically. "I'm going to go now, bye."
"Have a good day," Jess said. "I love you."
"I love you too dad," Holden replied. "Now leave me alone."
"But, I don't want to go home and write," Jess said as he pouted.
"Then change you profession," Holden replied. "And stop pouting."
"Okay," Jess relented. "But when you got home I expect to hear all about how your first day went."
"Sure," Holden replied. "I'll see you tonight."
"Yeah," Jess replied as he pulled the car away from the curb and took off.
Holden turned around and faced Chilton.
"Here I go," Holden mumbled to herself as she walked through the Chilton gates.
After wandering around for a while Holden finally found the headmasters office.
"I'm here to see Headmaster Duggrey," Holden said to the assistant.
"It's DuGrey," The assistant replied bitterly.
"Oh my bad," Holden replied. "Can I go in?"
The assistant got up from her desk and opened up the door.
"Sorry, Mr. DuGrey," The assistant apologized. "I didn't know you were seeing someone."
"It's alright," DuGrey replied. "And I told you to call me Tristan."
"Sorry," The assistant replied. "I have a new student here to see you."
"Ah, of course, thank you," Tristan said to the assistant. "I'll be with you in a minute," Tristan said to Holden.
"Okay," Holden replied she stood awkwardly by the door.
"Now LJ," Tristan said to the other student. "You know your mom and I are good friends, but that doesn't mean I will be cutting you any slack. What you did this morning was unacceptable. The first day of school hasn't even started yet."
"Sorry sir," LJ replied cheekily.
"I can't stay mad at you," Tristan replied as he ruffled LJ's hair. "Now got out of my office. I don't want to see you back in here again for at least a week."
"Sure Tristan," LJ replied as he headed to the door. "Hey," LJ said smoothly to Holden.
"LJ," Tristan warned. "Leave her alone."
"I'm leaving," LJ said as he walked out of the door.
"Have a seat," Tristan said as he motioned towards a chair and Holden sat down. "I'd stay away from that one if I was you."
"Thanks for the headed up," Holden replied.
