Scars
It had taken so long for him to see passed the scars to the man within. It was years of reassurances and compliments from friends before he could look in the mirror without flinching.
"You have a kind face," Lily had said.
"You have better hair than me," Sirius admitted drunkenly one night.
"I wish I was thin like you," Peter told him.
"You have great eyes. No girl will be able to resist those eyes," James had informed him on more than one occasion.
All of them paled in comparison to the way Tonks made him feel. She caressed every scar and brushed her fingers through his greying hair. The way she looked at him made him forget his age and see through all the imperfections he been stuck on throughout the years.
"You're so handsome," she told him nightly, and he stopped disagreeing.
