BOB'S BURGERS

THE COMPELLING ARGUMENT

WRITTEN BY ZARIUS

Rudy knew those after-school specials were worth the watch, but it was rare for him to heed their warnings until now.

As he stood next to Louise as she contemplated breaking and entering to retrieve thier confiscated cards, he realized just how far she was prepared to go, and that she meant it.

She always meant it, and he was always compelled to follow her lead.

She didn't have to say much to make him do exactly as she asked, he just sort of let it happen, despite his better judgement, despite knowing what rules to follow.

All he wanted was to break them at the potential expense of his innocence.

He wondered what would happen if Louise were to be caught, if he were to apprehended with her, would that be the wake up call he needed?

Would that be the realization Louise Belcher, the floppy eared empress of his class, was nothing but trouble to him and to others?

Or would he do everything in his power to spring her if she were to be caught and he escaped?

So many questions, but he knew the answer was always a resounding yes.

Yes, it would be a wake up call, but it didn't matter.

Yes, she was trouble, but it didn't matter.

Yes, he would spring her.

Because she mattered.

The danger was always there with Louise, and living the kind of saintly life he led, where there was normally no risk beyond the challenges of his asma, life with Louise was always a compelling argument for why noone should ever settle for normalcy.

All she had to say to him was "come on", she would lead, and he would follow.

And while she had a stern, iron-like expression on her face opposite him as she prepared the next phase of her plan, Louise, deep inside, was glad of Rudy's company, pleased and proud of him. Of all the boys she looked after in her class, he was the one most willing to step into the fire with her.

Into the fire.

Towards excitement.

The only life Rudy would ever settle for.
