Age used to mean a lot.

The gap between a first year and second year in middle school was enormous. It was implied that the differences between a first year and third year were not even worth mentioning.

First years were always the short children who had yet to find their own fashion sense. They bowed their heads down to older classmates and recognized value through years and not talent.

Second years were always the middle kids who had yet to find their own purpose. They bowed their heads down to the upperclassmen and began to realize the the importance of actual talent.

The only difference between a first year and a second year was that a second year had someone to push around.

Third years were always the fearless brats who had yet to find out that the world was much bigger than their little hierarchy. They bowed their heads down to no one and finally realized the importance of experience and talent.

The differences between a first year and a third year were too long to even begin listing. It would just take too long.

In tennis, those differences were almost too obvious.

First years picked up balls, second years got a chance, and third years dominated the regular roster.

Atobe Keigo never believed it respecting others purely based on age. It was a meaningless assumption that first years were weaker and third years were stronger. He knew that he was the king and everyone else was below him.

Yet the emphasis on age was still apparent.

As a first year, there were still those who didn't respect him. As a second year, many began to see the light. As a third year, everyone loved him.

The same cycle happened in high school.

In college, things began to mellow out. Two or three years didn't mean a lot anymore. Heck, ten years didn't mean a lot anymore. The age in between began to mean less while other values began to mean more.

So when his younger lover pushed him onto the bed with all intentions of topping, Atobe Keigo could only accept his fate with a kiss.

"Happy 24th birthday Keigo," Echizen Ryoma whispered.

A/N: This was actually inspired by an anonymous reviewer for Succession to the Throne.

"PS. Well, actually I do like Royal Pair but in RyoAto order XD" - unerase

I was trying to create a RyoAto scene that felt in character. It took me a long time actually. My inspiration was my sister who's getting married next year. She's ten years younger than her fiancee and I didn't really realized it until lately (he has a baby face, looks like he's only in twenty something but he's like almost forty O.o) I was teasing her and she finally got fed up with me and was like:

"Once you're an adult, a couple of years doesn't really matter anymore."

And then it was like LIGHT BULB.

So yeah, hope you guys enjoyed my little story full of grammar and spelling errors. Haha...
