I've always loved Jimmy Olsen. I don't know why he gets so much dissin' in Smallville, but he rocks - even if he isn't doing anything.
BTW - I don't own him. Or Superman. But neither does Smallville. In fact, all they really own is Chloe... and Whitney. But anyways... on with the show...
"Hey!" Clark exclaimed enthusiastically, throwing his arms around his old friend Pete Ross. "You made it!"
"Yeah. Thought I left you hanging long enough." Pete returned his hug, patting him on the back a couple of times as hard as he could as though he thought Clark couldn't feel it.
"So, is this a…" Clark almost hesitated to ask, it had been so long and he didn't want to ruin the moment by asking what his worst fears were confirming to be true "one night thing?"
"Yep. One night only. See how everything has changed."
Jimmy Olsen was turning the corner but made a beeline back around when he saw Clark with someone he didn't know.
"Hey C.K. Just checking we're still having our 'guy time' tonight." He tried not to appear over-eager, but that was a hard thing to do with Jimmy Olsen. His smile gave him away every time.
"Uh, yeah… Jimmy…" Clark took in a deep breath and indicated to Pete. "This is my best… um… Pete. This is Pete Ross." Clark thought he covered quite nicely. It was actually quite awkward. The past and the present; the new "best friend" and the old best friend face to face.
"Your best Pete. Pleased to meet you." Jimmy had a wry smile on his face and put his hand out to Pete. Pete looked at him as though he was from another planet for a second before grabbing it.
"Yeah, likewise."
"So… uh… Jimmy."
Here it comes, thought Jimmy, who always tried to put on a pleasant exterior even if the interior was assuming the worst.
"Pete's only in town for one night and I was hoping that we…" Jimmy almost closed his eyes, ready for the let down.
"Could all go out together" cut in a voice behind Clark and Pete and him shared a look. "You know, so I could get the low down on the new Clark Kent."
"I suppose we could make our 'guy night' cater for three" Jimmy replied, accepting the offer.
Clark faked a smile, trying not to let Jimmy see that he would rather be spending the time with Pete alone. "Great."
"Great." Echoed Pete, smiling his own fake smile at Jimmy.
Jimmy narrowed his eyes at Pete who he saw as his new competition. "Great." He said at last as the three boys stood there in a tense silence.
