Sleepy Swan
An OUAT Fanfic
Tired. Exhausted. Drained. Worn out. Done in. Bushed. Beat.
There is no word in the English language that comes close to summing up how I feel.
This isn't your normal "Too-Much-Caffeine-Late-Night-Netflix-Binging" exhaustion.
This type of body and mind numbing weariness is the complete package. It has your eyelids closing mid-sentence. It has your neck acting like a rebellious teenager, refusing to hold up your head. It causes your entire body to feel like warm rubber. I've actually poked myself in the eye because I've misjudged the distance between my fingers and eyelid.
Not having the appetite for grilled cheese and onion rings, I've left majority of my family at Granny's. I need some to refresh my batteries.
It's only by sheer force of will that I manage to climb up to the loft, haul myself across the apartment (has it always been this big?) and scale the second set of stairs up to my bed.
The down comforter yields to my abrupt freefall with a soft "ffffff" and I can feel my body dipping into the mattress. Mom must have just done laundry because the pillows smell like fabric softener. I also catch traces of her hand lotion on the sheets. My baby blanket is folded underneath- like she knew I would need it tonight.
With my last ounce of energy, I maneuver onto my stomach. Sleeping in jeans and a jacket won't exactly be comfy but I'm too tired to strip down.
I'm sure I make some rather un-Emma like noises as I let my limbs go numb. I don't even bother to stifle the large yawn that follows. With nobody around, I can finally give in to the exhaustion.
I'm almost gone when I feel my feet lifted, boots unzipped and my cheek kissed. Traces of salty sea air and rum send me off.
"Sweet dreams love."
