Among the Fields
The sun sets over a cloudless sky, its orange rays stretching over a field, turning it to gold. A man lazes among the tall grass, his arms stretched beneath his head using them as a sort of pillow. His gaze lingers on the beauty beside him. She props herself up onto her elbows to get a better look at him. They're not saying anything. Just looking into each others' souls.
The man breaks into a sudden smile and pulls the girl down to him for a brief but passionate kiss. She seems amused by his playfulness. Maybe because he shows this side of him so rarely. But there is something about this girl -- something special -- that brings it out in him.
They continue to gaze at one another as the sun finally sinks beyond the horizon. The stars begin to appear then; glittering outlines of mythical creatures and men of history, all long forgotten by us now.
The couple remains among the field of barley, each of them pointing out shapes in the sky to the other. The hour grows late, but they feel safe wrapped in this blanket of stars. As if Mother Nature herself has tucked them in.
The sounds of night settle in around them, and they lay quietly now, just listening. The young woman rests her head on the man's chest, closing her eyes and breathing in deeply. He holds her close, stroking her arm lightly as she falls into a peaceful slumber. He watches her for awhile, taking in every detail of her.
He glances up into the night sky just in time to see a shooting star carve a path of light through the darkness. 'Make a wish'he hears her voice in his head. He glances down at her sleeping form again and smiles. He doesn't need to wish on falling stars. His wish came true long ago.
Still smiling, he closes his eye and relaxes. The moon, rising from its place over the distant hills, shines full and bright, watching over them.

A/N: I realized only after a re-write of this that nowhere in the fic is clothing mentioned. lol They're meant to be clothed, but I'll leave it up to the readers to use their imaginations if they want. -wink-
