Age 1
When Padma was really very young, her mother was a goddess and her father a god.
Her sister would lie beside her and they would breathe as one. Her grandmother would lean over the cot with her long white hair.
Age 4
When Padma was very young, her mother was a goddess, and her father a god.
Her sister would laugh and play and she would listen to her grandmother read them funny little stories about people who knew no magic.
Age 8
When Padma was young, her mother was a goddess and her father a king who had fallen in love.
Her sister would drag her along to play with the other magical children in the streets and her grandmother would call out warnings with a stern smile on her face. Padma would nod dutifully, while her sister would already be out the door.
Age 10
When Padma was merely young, her mother was a queen and her father was a king who had fallen in love.
Her sister would talk excitedly about Hogwarts and when they would attend and her grandmother was dead.
