Enjolras stood by the open bar with a scotch on the rocks in hand. He looked at the dance floor that was completely packed with people, but his eyes couldn't seem to leave his girlfriend. She was just out there dancing with their friends, most of them intoxicated beyond his liking. He couldn't understand how she was able to just dance the night away when he stood there, completely upset about the argument they had had the night before.
Eponine stood in the bedroom that she shared with Enjolras and pursed her lips at the two dresses that were laid out on the bed. She looked at them both, trying to pick out the perfect dress for Marius and Cosette's wedding the next day. Her hands ran over the green satin-like fabric before moving to the navy one of the same feeling.
"Why are you putting so much effort into picking out an outfit for the wedding?" That was the question that she heard coming from the doorway. She turned and smiled at her boyfriend and then looked back at the dresses. "I need to look perfect for it. It's not everyday your best friend gets married."
Enjolras let out a laugh of obvious irritation. It was no secret that Eponine had once been completely in love with Marius. While Enjolras was normally very certain in the relationship he had with Eponine, some nights he felt as if she was still in love with Marius. Tonight was one of those nights.
"You mean it's not everyday that the man you were thoroughly infatuated with gets married to another girl?"
Eponine whipped around and shot him a death glare. "Excuse me? Are you really going back to that?"
Enjolras rolled his eyes and nodded. "I am. Just face it, Eponine. You're not dressing up because it's a wedding of a friend. You're dressing up because it's Marius Pontmercy's wedding. There's a difference."
The brunette girl let out a huff of air and narrowed her eyes at him. "You're a fucking idiot, Enjolras. I don't love Marius-"
"But you did at one point!"
"But I don't anymore! You showed me that! Do you not get that?!"
Enjolras just rolled his eyes and muttered, "I'll be sleeping in the guest room tonight." Then he turned and marched off to the extra room for the evening.
He was brought out of the memory of the previous night when he felt a tap on the shoulder from Marius. He gave him the largest smile he could muster before saying, "Congratulations." Marius nodded and thanked him before asking, "Why don't you just apologize to Ep?"
Enjolras blinked repeatedly and Marius just laughed. "She told Cosette and me what happened last night. You're blind, Enjolras. It's obvious that whatever feelings she had for me are nothing compared to what she feels for you. You need to stop feeling insecure about whatever and understand that. Otherwise, you two will never be truly happy." The newlywed patted him on the shoulder before going off to talk with his new father-in-law.
The blonde man just stood there, digesting everything Marius had said. He sighed, realizing that his friend was right, and swallowed the rest of his drink quickly. He then made his way out to the middle of the dance floor and tapped Eponine on the shoulder.
She whipped around to face him and she could barely hear when he said, "I shouldn't have been jealous last night. It was wrong of me, and I apologize. I know that you love me, and I love you. Would you care to dance?"
Eponine smiled and nodded as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and pressed her lips to his softly. She pulled away and went to whisper in his ear, "I forgive you. But you'll have to prove how sorry you are once we get home." Enjolras smirked and looked down at her and nodded. "Anything for you," he said before resting his chin on the top of her head as they swayed to the music, happy to have made up and ecstatic for when they got home.
