Title: Two Minutes

Rating: K

Summary: AU Doomsday. What if two minutes was more than the Doctor needed?

Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who. I'm just writing this for fun.

Author's Note: If Journey's End has taught me one thing, it's that given the opportunity, the Doctor may not be as brave as one would hope...

Two Minutes

"I lo..." began Rose, desperately fighting for the courage to say those words, "I love you."

"Quite right too," said the Doctor softly. "And I suppose ... if it's my last chance to say it..." Rose looked on in anticipation, wondering if her broken heart could be somewhat healed from those words.

"Rose Tyler..." said the Doctor, dreading that his time was up and that he wouldn't get the chance to say it.

And yet he remained there. It seemed the two minutes were not up yet.

"Yes Doctor?" asked Rose nervously.

"Rose Tyler..." the Doctor repeated. "My dear, sweet Rose Tyler... Rose Tyler, who has been my best friend from Day One..." He was about to open his mouth again, but then glanced at his watch.

"That must be two minutes, surely?" he mumbled.

"Doctor, just say it!" cried Rose suddenly.

"Oi! Don't rush me!" said the Doctor.

"Well quit stalling!" exclaimed Rose.

"I'm not! I'm just building up to it!" defended the Doctor. Rose crossed her arms.

"I bloody hate you sometimes!" she declared.

"I hate you too!" said the Doctor. He turned away for a moment, but then upon turning back realised that his time was up. His image had faded.

He made a mental note – whenever saying goodbye to companions, allow a smaller window than two minutes. Otherwise things just get awkward.

The End

So while other people have said that he gets the chance to say it, I kinda went in the other direction. Hehe.
