Coffee Shop
Jackie stood in line at the coffee shop.
She held Hundley tightly as the baby tried to grab some cups off of the shelf but her little arms just wouldn't reach them, luckily for Jackie.
Hundley had just had a checkup and it had gone well, the baby was growing right on schedule, although she was a little shorter than most little ones her age, in all likelihood that was because Jackie herself was so short.
Hundley didn't even have to get any shots at this appointment which was a huge relief for Jackie.
On the way home from the clinic Jackie decided she'd stop and get a coffee for herself and some cookies for the other kids who Nick was watching at home.
"Mrs. Hart." A little boy exclaimed happily as he wrapped his arms around Jackie as soon as Jackie had gotten in line.
Jackie smiled at him.
"Hi sweetie, I'm not Mrs. Hart, I'm her twin sister." Jackie explained.
The little boy's eyes got wide and he stepped back.
"Well than I can't hug you, you're a stranger." He exclaimed.
Jackie stifled a laugh as did the little boy's mother who was watching this whole spectacle.
"Is Mrs. Hart your teacher?" Jackie asked.
"Yeah, she's really nice, I love her. I went to a different school in kindergarten and my teacher was really mean but Mrs. Hart is nice." He said happily.
"Well that's good. I'm so glad that you like Mrs. Hart and I'm sorry you had a mean teacher last year." Jackie told him.
"Yeah me too, I didn't want to go to school at all last year but this year I always want to go!"
"That's awesome! I'm so glad! Do you want to know something cool?"
"Yeah." He replied.
"I'm a first grade teacher too but I teach at a different school than Mrs. Hart does." Jackie told him.
"I bet you aren't as nice as her, are you?"
Jackie chuckled.
"I don't know, she's pretty nice." She answered with a smile.
"Your baby is cute." He told Jackie as he nodded at Hundley who was still trying her hardest to reach those cups.
"Thank you." She told him, before turning her attention to the baby.
"Hundley, you don't need those cups, they are bigger than you are." Jackie told the infant.
As if to be defiant Hundley reached down and took one of her socks off and threw it on the floor and then grinned at Jackie.
Jackie shook her head.
The little boy laughed at the baby's antics as he very nicely bent down and picked up the sock.
"Thank you, she's a stinker." Jackie told him as she threw the sock in her purse, she then took the baby's other sock off and also put that in her purse so Hundley wouldn't take that one of as well and throw it on the floor.
"Alright come on bud, let's go home." The boy's mother said as she handed him the smoothie she had just bought for him.
"Bye lady, bye baby." He told Jackie and Hundley.
"Bye, would you like me to tell Mrs. Hart hi for you?" Jackie offered.
"Yeah." The little boy said as he shook his head up and down.
"Ok, I will, what's your name?" Jackie asked, realizing now that she hadn't asked before.
"Luke."
"Ok Luke, I will tell Mrs. Hart you said hi, and it was nice meeting you." Jackie told him.
"Thanks, you too, bye baby." He told Hundley once again.
"Can you wave goodbye?" Jackie asked the baby.
Hundley looked at her as if she was crazy.
"Wave at her, she'll do it then." Jackie told Luke.
He did and Hundley grinned widely at him and waved frantically back.
Luke and Jackie laughed.
"Good job." Jackie told the infant.
With one last smile Luke and his mother left the coffee shop and as soon as she had gotten her coffee and cookies Jackie and Hundley left as well.
On the way home Jackie stopped at a stoplight, she glanced in the rear view mirror and noticed Hundley was grinning again.
Jackie laughed and shook her head, with an infant even a simple errand to the coffee shop was entertaining!
The End!
