A/N:
Warning! This fanfic DOES contain many sensitive topics, if not now then in later chapters, such as eating disorders, bullying, and selfharm. I know many people are reluctant to write about these topics so they don't romanticize it. Trust me, I know how it all works. I've dealt with all of these one way or anouther.
I am WELL aware that these things don't end with everything being perfect. I also know that reading fanfic that dealt with these topics can help you through it. But please realize that talking to someone, most likely a trusted friend not necessarily an adult, will help immensely! Please also know that if you have never done it, it is never the answer. They are all diseases and are so hard to get over and you will probably always deal with trying not to go back to your old habits. If you ever want to talk about it, I'm here!
John had taken a hunting job in a new, small city and had said they would be there awhile. But she didn't think that 'awhile' was long enough to call for her having to attend school. There was only one public school in the city and from what she heard, it was a rough school. Tess didn't think she would have to worry about the other kids too much though. She had her training and, more importantly, her dear big brother Sam there. Dean had, hardly, graduated a few years ago and Sam would be starting his senior year while she started her freshman year.
She was definitely worried about starting high school, even though Sam seemed to like it enough, even enjoyed it. Did she look okay? Was her hair too messy? Too neat? Lord she had never worried about her appearance, never had much need or chance to growing up with only a dad and brothers.
She stared at herself in the mirror. Tess wasn't exactly skinny, she was curvy, your classic hourglass figure with wide hips and a decent sized bust. It was just curves right? What was she thinking? She didn't care what others thought about her, right? Right. Besides, nobody had ever mentioned her weight, so she didn't see anything wrong with it. She took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom, back into the main motel room.
Doing her best to keep her nerves from showing, she sat at the table with Sam and Dean where Dean had prepared them all a his famous, 5 star, gourmet breakfast of sugary cereal and aqua a la tap.
"Hey Smalls! Took awhile in that bathroom don't you think? Hopefully high school doesn't start making you into a girl!" Dean wrinkled his nose in fake disgust, though he wouldn't mind it. He always wanted a normal life for her and Sam. One where Sam would go to school, play sports, date the cheer captain. A life where Tess would have sleepovers with other girls her age, be boy crazed, go dress shopping for the poor bastard who asked her to prom.
"Stop recognizing my vertical disabilities! It's not my fault you guys are six foot giants while you ditched me in the 'barely five foot' category!" Tess glared at Dean but couldn't hold back a smile that was creeping onto her face. Sam and Dean had called her that for as long as she could remember. Well that and-
"Alright Squirt, we need to go or we'll be late." Sam said as he stood, giving you a smile and ruffling your hair.
And Squirt. When would those bas- silly geese ever start treating her like she was older than 4?
"Yea yea I'm comin'..." She stood and grabbed her messenger bag, slinging it around her shoulders. They all three made their way to the Impala, Dean driving of course with Sam shot gun. John had left Dean the Impala while he took the truck on the hunt with him. Dean had been so excited to have the Impala the whole time John was hunting, even if that did men having to take his younger siblings to and from school.
After about five minutes, they were siting in the school parking lot. Sam had started to get out but Tess stayed still. She showed no interest or intent of moving anytime soon. Sam looked at her and then back at Dean, not knowing what to say. He loved his sister and usually gave great advise, but he could also usually relate to her. He couldn't know. Always loving the chance to go to school, Sam honestly just couldn't think of any reason of why she wouldn't want to go into the building, have a chance at making some friends and live normally for awhile. Dean gave him a nod signaling him to go so he did just that waving at them once, then walking into the building.
"Alright Squirt, what's buggin'ya? Spill." Dean had turned to look at her.
She shrugged, avoiding eye contact and stared at her anxious hands. "It's just...I'm not going to fit in...I never do...can't I just stay home with you?" Tess knew she couldn't give the puppy face that made peoples' hearts melt like Sam did but she still had a pretty pitiful expression.
"Tessie...you have to go. Trust me, I would rather you stay home where it's safer but I can't let you do that to yourself. This is one of the only chances you'll get to go to a real school. I'll be right back here at 3:00 waiting to hear about your day, I promise."
Tess nodded still avoiding his gaze. She was going to be strong, she was going to show him how brave she could be. Giving him a small smile she got out of the car and walked into the huge building.
God who ever thought that these lockers were a good idea?! Tess thought to herself. It was only her first day and she was already going to have to walk into her first class late, drawing more unwanted attention to herself. She hurried down the hall, the bell had already rang. When she finally found her homeroom, she was glad to see the door was open. At least she wouldn't have to knock. She walked in the door way and the teacher glanced at her, stopping writing to address her.
"Can I help you?" He asked. The question itself was innocent enough. She would have been able to answer it were it not for all of the faces that had turned towards her. It was almost as if she couldn't remember how to speak. All of the faces. She had always been terribly shy around people she didn't know. "Excuse me?" His words brought her back from her head into reality.
"S-sorry...I'm new...this is my f-first class..." Damnit! She thought. You've not stuttered sense you were a toddler! You really think now is the time to develop a speech impediment?! She couldn't even look him in the eye. It took all of her strength to keep her knees from shaking.
"Oh! Sorry! Tess right?" She nodded quickly, "Alright, you can take a seat anywhere that is empty and copy the notes I write on the bored, yea?" Tess gave him one quick nod and went to a seat in the very back. The whole time she could feel the eyes of the other students on her.
When lunch came, Tess couldn't have been happier. She went in the courtyard and sat against a tree alone. Feeling more introverted then ever, she tried so hard to forget all of the weird looks she had been oh so graciously received. She hadn't seen Sam all day, not even in the hall. Really she just wanted him to tell her it was okay and that they could go home if she wanted. School sucked.
She pulled out her phone and texted Sam.
WHERE ARE YOU?! DO YOU HAVE FIRST LUNCH PLEASE ANSWER YES!
No sorry kiddo, I'm second. Just go to a table and introduce yourself. Love you
Tess sighed. Of course that was all he would have to do. Talking to other people came easy to him. There was no way she was going to introduce herself to random strangers, she would rather face a vampire alone with only a piece of toast for defense!
She pulled out her MP3 player, shuffling through to find what song could describe what she was feeling. "Teenagers" by MCR. Perfect, she thought. Tess leaned against the tree with her MP3 blasting in her ears until she saw kids begin to stand and make their way to the hall. She assumed that meant the bell had rang and got up and followed.
Tess was almost to her locker when she felt pressure on her arm, looked up, and saw a considerably older boy grin. "Fat" he said right to her face. She could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks as he shoved her hard into a locker. Not knowing how to react, she just stood in shock as the boy went about his business. She seemed to become invisible. Kids walked around and into her, none seeming to give a second about her or what just happened. Nobody cares...
