Masters and Rambles

"You work too much."

"No one said that you had to stay up here with me."

"Even if I didn't, it wouldn't change the very true fact that you, demon, work too much."

That was how Mirajane found herself one day, down in the bookroom after hours, trying to reorganize it after the mini-crisis that had occurred that day. Lucy or Lisanna or…somebody had done something involving a spell that messed stuff up or something and everyone had gone downstairs to find the cause of the spell and cure it.

Or something.

Whatever.

Usually, Mirajane would have been more involved in whatever had taken place that day or at the very least had all the information on it.

But that specific day she'd been rather…distracted. Using everyone else's interest in whatever had been going on, she had managed to spend the whole day with her boyfriend, who miraculously chose to stick around that day.

Now though, it was closing and all he wanted to do was go home. With her. And eat. Or have sex. Or sleep. Listening to music sounded nice.

But no. They had to stay after and clean up the bookroom.

Err, well, Mira did. Laxus was sitting at one of the tables, feet kicked up on the table, waiting around for her to finish up.

"I'm happy to help Master keep things tidy."

Bleh.

"Yeah, well, when I'm Master-"

"I really don't see that happening, Laxus, if it hasn't already."

He blinked. Then he narrowed his eyes at his giggling girlfriend. "I was about to say that I wasn't going to make you work as much, but just for that, demon, you're gonna be working double shifts for the rest of your life."

"Mmmm…and when I'm Master-"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Chill. What the hell are you talking about?"

"What I'm talking about, Lax, is the fact that I think, if anyone deserves a shot at it, it's me."

"In what way-"

"There hasn't been a female Master since Mavis and-"

"And? So what? Who cares? You're not-"

"Now, now. Don't get yourself kicked out of the guild."

"You can't kick me out of shit! Because you're not going to be the master! I am. So-"

"You're getting rather worked up there, Lax."

"Yeah, because-"

"I mean, it's almost like you're nervous," she accused. "Like you know that I might just be right."

"How, Mirajane? How? How would you ever possibly-"

"Well, for one, I'm the strongest wizard other than Gildarts, so-"

"Bull. You're totally forgetting someone."

"Erza? I could take her."

"Mira-"

"Natsu? I got him too."

"You're making me angry."

"Aw."

"You can't be Master, Mirajane."

"Why not? I help Master with all of his stuff now. I know everything."

"Not everything."

"What's that-"

"You can't be Master! So just stop-"

"I think doth protest too much."

"That doesn't even make sense."

"Does too."

"Does not. You-"

"Master Mirajane. Master Mira."

"Stop it."

"No."

"Yes. Stop-"

"I think I'll need a new look for it, you know? Something real serious."

He blinked. "Serious."

"Uh-huh." She was up on a ladder then, restocking books, and glanced over her shoulder at him. "You know, cut my hair short? Or something? I'm thinking spikes!"

More blinking. Then, "You know, demon, you might just be single if that happens."

"Oh, Laxus. Don't be jealous. When I'm Master, I'll make all the others be nice to you, if that's what you're worried about."

"I'm not worried about anything because I know that it's not happening."

"I won't let them snicker or point. You know, because you're, like, inferior to your girlfriend."

"Mirajane-"

"But I might, sometimes, have to exert my authority over you, but you should be used to it by now. I mean, I'm pretty much better than you in every way on a daily basis, so-"

"You're on my nerves."

"Oh, Laxus," she sighed, glancing at him again. "You know I love you."

"No."

"Laxus-"

"You're trying to take, like, my one dream since I was a kid and make it into a joke."

"I'm not joking. I think that I would make a better master than you."

"Mira-"

"But if I was, like, on my deathbed or something, sure, I'll hand it over to you."

"You're about to get left up here all alone."

"Well, considering it'll be my guild soon-"

"I can kill you down here, demon, and say that it was some other person."

"Oh, right, because you electrocuting me wouldn't hint at you being the culprit at all," she said. "I mean, there are just tons of lightning mages running around Magnolia."

"I'd choke you to death."

"Uh-huh. And what? You think that you can kill a demon? Silly dragon."

"Don't try to play cute with me now," he grumbled. "Not after being so-"

"So right?"

"Mirajane-"

"I love you, Laxus."

"No. Na-ah. You're being-"

"Why can't I be Master, huh? Why-"

"Because, Mira," he hissed. "If you are, then I can't be. What don't you get about that?"

"Why can't you just start another guild in Magnolia and take your bad attitude over there?"

"Mira-"

"Oh, Laxus, if it's that big of a deal-"

"It is."

"-then I'll just settle for being the Master's wife."

"Thank- What?"

"You heard me."

Growl. "So what? I either gotta marry you or I gotta let you be Master?"

"Yep."

"That's not-"

"Now that I think about it, yeah, I'll settle for a wedding. And a house. And a baby. And a d-"

"No dog."

"Laxus-"

"No."

"Well aren't you the disagreeable dragon today?"

"You're annoying me."

"When don't I annoy you?"

"Good point. All the more reason not to marry you."

Mira sent him another look as she finished with the books in her hand and had to climb down the ladder to get more. "You know, Lax, this process would go faster if you'd help me out some."

"Ha. No." He shook his head slightly. "I'm not helping you do nothing."

"Oh, wow, you're mature. Master."

"Mira-"

"What? That's what I'm going to call you, right? Master?"

"You're being disrespectful."

"Sorry, Master."

"Mira-"

"Yes, Master?"

"I hate you."

"Oh, that hurts me so deeply, Master."

More growling. Then, "You owe me something good when we get home, Mira."

"Meaning what? Food? I'm not cooking when we get home. Laxus, I've been working all day. I'm tired and-"

"So what? You expect me to make us something?"

"It'd be nice."

"After you were just mean to me and-"

"Laxus-"

"Oh, hush, Mira. You know that I'm going to make the dang dinner," he grumbled. "I'll make us sandwiches or something."

"And can we take a bubble bath after?"

"Mirajane-"

"Please, Master?"

"Stop calling me that."

"How about Daddy then? Or my husband? Or homeowner?"

"Gah! You're ruining my life."

"Lax, face it. I'm making your life."

"What does that even mean?"

"You know." When she passed him with a stack of books, she gave his head a little shove. "That your life had no meaning before me."

"Oh? It didn't now?"

"Nope."

"That's a bunch of bull."

"It's true," Mirajane insisted. "You know it is. Tell me that you don't enjoy life more these days than you did back when I wasn't your girlfriend?"

"Meh."

"Laxus-"

"What? I can't have an opinion on things? I can't like being with you more than-"

"Behave."

He grunted. Then he said, "You know that I'd choose you. Obviously. If I wouldn't, we wouldn't be here right now, would we?"

"So basically you love me."

"Basically."

"No, Laxus. That was the part where you said it."

"You'd work a lot faster without all this yammering."

"Say it."

"I love you, demon."

She giggled at that, almost mewling. "How much do you love me?"

"Mira-"

"How much-"

"More than anything I've ever loved before." He slipped his feet off the tables then, slamming them back down on the ground. "I'd give up my life for you. You're mine."

More mewling. "I love you too, Laxus."

"Yeah, yeah." Getting to his feet, he only said. "This place looks better already. How 'bout we call it a night, huh? And then in the morning, you can have Lisanna or Kinana come down here and pick up."

"You just wanna cash in on that love garb you just spewed on me."

"As soon as possible."

"Fine," Mira sighed, going to set the rest of the books in her hand down on one of the tables. "Let's go close up."

"Great."

"But," she added as he went to go toss an arm around her and lead her up the stairs.

"No buts."

"You have to call me your master."

His arm dropped. "We're not going over this again."

"It's the only way, Lax."

"You're not my master." He looked down at her. "You're my demon. And…eventually you'll get to be the Master's wife. Good?"

"Yay!" Apparently. "And the mother of the Master's children, right?"

"Demon, you're killing me."

"I'm thinking a boy and a girl. No! Just a boy. No! Just a girl. No! Five kids. Random gender. Don't care which."

"You're psychotic."

"And I want a two-story house, okay? With a grand staircase. With a huge yard. And a d-"

"No dog!"

"Fine." Mirajane turned her head from him before going to head out the bookroom and back up the stairs. "But I'm not backing down on the two-story house thing. And ooh! If you're gonna be the Master, does that make me the Mistress?"

"Please don't say that again."

"And don't' forget, Lax, that you're making dinner tonight."

"Yeah, yeah," he grumbled, trudging up the stairs behind her. At the sound of her giggle, he hid a smile. "I know."

Didn't feel in the story mood today and somehow this happened. I know, it's just random and kinda pointless, but it doesn't really fit with any other story, so here it is. I feel like a Bickslow and Lisanna oneshot now, but maybe I'll try working on Fast Forward some instead.
