The night twinkled with all stars, lighting up the midnight blue sky. Down below the sky, far from the castle, Fionna sat down under a tree, crying bitterly. Her face was buried in her knees and the tears were streaming down her face. Her sobs grew louder and louder, her voice cracking bit by bit. She looked up and wiped her nose, then continued crying.
"What's with me?" she cried to herself. "Why am I so hung up on some guy I knew had no shot with?"
Fionna's lips trembled as she got up. Her legs were sore from running, and received some minor cuts from branches. Fionna walked out to the open and saw the castle in the distance. She frowned at the building and quickly turned away. "Ugh, I'm so weak! You think I'd learn something," she muttered. She closed her eyes and sang out her feelings.
I thought that we were cool
I thought that we were buds
But I hoped inside my heart that we'd be more than bros
Now I'm sitting, so lonely, crying my eyes out now
'Cause you told me we can't be together
What about all the things that I always do for you?
What about all the fun and the adventures we had?
What about all the laughs that we shared last night?
I guess they mean to you, 'cause you're letting me cry
Well guess what, your highness?
I'm done with your junk
Guess what, your royalness?
Go find another entourage
I'm no longer your servant, can't tell me what to do
So guess, Pirnce Gumwad
Goodbye and so long to you
So I don't need you anymore
Goodbye and so long
Goodbye and so long
Fionna stayed quiet and listened to the melody of the wind. A figure crept behind her and hugged her from behind her. Fionna turned her head around to see Marshall Lee snuggling behind her. "Hey. Whatcha up to?" he said. He realized that were bright blue eyes were red, and there were dry tears on her face. "Have you been crying?"
"No," she answered.
She broke out of his hold and walked away, But Marshall Lee took hold of her arm. She slowly turned around and looked into his red eyes. "Please. Tell me what's wrong," he begged. Fionna closed her eyes and sniffed. "I told Gumball that I liked him, but he told me that he couldn't see himself with a child like me," she said.
Fionna buried her face in his chest and sobbed uncontrollably. Marshall Lee hugged her and rested his chin on her head. "Shhh, it's okay. The gumwad doesn't deserve you," he whispered. He broke the embrace and took off her bunny hat, letting her hair fly free. He tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and caressed her chin.
"I'm sure you can do better," he said.
Fionna's sobs slowly subsided and smiled. She jumped and tackled him with a hug. Marshall Lee blushed a bit, but returned her hug. The two stayed like that for a while, until they pulled away and stared at each other. They slowly leaned in and their lips met. The two stayed like that for a while, until their lungs were screaming for air. They pulled apart from each other and smiled. Fionna sat down, and Marshall Lee joined her.
"So… heard you singing," he said after a moment of silence.
"Oh. You heard that," she mumbled
Marshall Lee frowned and pulled her into a hug. "I want you to know that I'd never do that to you. You mean too much to me," he said. Fionna blushed at this but snuggled up to him and smiled. "I love you, Fi, Marshall whispered. Fionna pulled away and smiled . "I love you, too." And the two shared another kiss. Not from where they were, Gumball was staring at them from a distance. He came to apologize to Fionna, but saw Marshall Lee.
"Fionna," he said.
