It was a cool morning in Camp Half Blood. Annabeth Chase, Daughter of Athena woke up bright eyed in her warm bed. She slowly got off of the very appealing mattress and saw that most of her half brothers/sisters had already left for their morning activities. She pulled on some clothes, including her vibrant, orange Camp Half Blood t shirt. She brushed the tangles and knots out of the curls in her dirty blonde hair. After being deemed ready by some of the daughters of Athena who were still in the cabin she left to go see her best friend. Son of Poseidon, Percy Jackson. Ever since they were twelve they had become fast friends. Four years together full of quests and last year they had saved the world together and now they finally had one year to spend at Camp Half Blood. No quests. At least that's what they had planned on. As she knocked on his cabin door which was a stone that looked like it had washed up on the beach and the person who had made the Poseidon cabin had said something like "Oh, what do we have here? Oh a stone, we can use that as a door! Im sure Lord Poseidon would be honoured to have some stone that was washed up on our beach as his cabins door! Aye what what!" It was sore to knock on yet many people still did it though some of the younger campers would kick with their foot if they had to knock at all. She heard someone mumble through the door. Assuming it was "Give me a minuet." She waited out side. Soon the door opened to reveal a boy with jet black hair that was sticking out all over his head. His sea green eyes sparkled as he smiled at Annabeth. He wore a Camp Half Blood t shirt, identical to Annabeth's, with a pair of khaki shorts. He had obviously just woken up.
"Hey, Breakfast." Annabeth said in a very demanding tone.
"Alright." Percy muttered stiffling a yawn from escaping his dry mouth. He slammed the cold stone door behind him and walked to the Dining Pavilion with his best friend.
"Good sleep?" Annabeth asked as they walked.
"Not really, had a weird dream."
"What about?"
"Just about some kid, who looks sort of like me. But with a scar on his forehead shaped like…" Percy squinted his eyes trying to remember. "Sort of like a lightning bolt. He wore like moon glasses and he was standing in this massive hall. Like a dark hall, with loads of people taking pictures of him… weird huh?"
"Weird." Annabeth agreed.
"So how was your sle-" There was a loud shriek coming from in front of them. They both sprinted forward and shuffled to a halt when they saw that a boy about their age was on the floor, shrieking as if he were being tortured by something invisible. Chiron the Centaur galloped over and hoisted the camper who was still shrieking in pain onto his back. He galloped away, the rest of the campers stood in silence looking at the place where the boy had been…tortured. Percy jogged over to Grover who was standing opposite him.
"Who was it?" Percy whispered into the Satyr's ear.
"Travis Stoll…" Grover said, still in shock.
"C'MON CAMPERS IT'S BREAKFAST!" Percy yelled, making all of the other campers come back down to earth and bustle to their tables. Annabeth made her way over to Percy.
"We should go check on him later."
"Agreed, ill see you after Breakfast okay?" Percy walked off to sit alone on the Poseidon table. He couldn't get it out of his mind that the boy in his dream and this were linked…
Later on that day Annabeth and Percy went to visit Travis; he was lying in one of the beds, asleep. He had recovered. Thank God. He wasn't in any fit state to be let go though. Chiron had confirmed he had been tortured though when he had told Percy, he couldn't keep himself thinking Chiron wasn't letting on all he knew.
"At least Travis is going to be okay." Percy thought.
Percy sat alone in the dusty old stables. Blackjack had asked him if he wanted to go for a ride, but Percy had declined: He just needed some time to think.
All of his thoughts were swimming around in his head, trying to piece together the events of the previous day. He was positive that the boy in his dream and Travis were related. Maybe the unknown boy was a son of Zeus since he had a lightning bolt scar on his forehead? No… Something told Percy that was way off track.
A fairly handsome boy of around Percy's age walked into the stables. He had short white blonde hair, a straight nose and sharp features. He wore a Camp Half Blood T-Shirt with a pair of denim jeans. He tried to clamber onto a Pegasus, but fell off. Watching the new kid, Percy stood up and walked over to help him.
"You need some help man?" Percy asked politely.
"I don't need your help Jackson." He sneered back, with what Percy believed to be a Scottish accent.
"I'm…sorry?"
"You think you're so cool don't you Jackson? Saving the world again, getting special treatment? Well you're exactly the same in my book."
"Who, in the name of Hades, are you?" Percy asked, his anger rising.
"I don't see how that's any of your business."
"Er, Percy?" Someone tapped Percy on the shoulder. He spun round and saw it was Annabeth.
"Yeah?"
"Have you seen Rachel anywhere?" She asked, taking no interest in the boy who Percy had just turned his back on.
"Nope," Percy answered "Maybe she's in her ca-"
"Is this your girlfriend Jackson?" a cold voice sneered behind him.
"If you're not going to tell me who you are, then just get lost!" Percy turned around.
"I'm Thomas, Thomas Cameron. But I would prefer to be called Tom. So Jackson, is this your girlfriend? She seems too perfect to fancy you."
"Aw thank-you." Annabeth said, politely. Tom smiled at her, showing his even white teeth.
"Cameron, just get lost would you?"
"Don't tell me what to do Jackson. Or you'll be nursing a bloody nose." Tom sneered.
"Is that a threat?"
"Well," Tom pulled a sword out of his back pocket and banged the hilt of it on Percy's nose. "Not exactly, it's something I just did." He finished. Percy's nose started to bleed. Percy took a swing at Tom, though Tom just caught Percy's fist in his hand.
"Too slow." He murmured, he spun Percy around, kicked his back causing him to fall onto all fours.
"Leave him alone Cameron." Annabeth pulled out her dagger and wiped it across Tom's cheek. Tom who wasn't expecting it got a scar for life.
"Is that the proper way to act when I just complimented you?" Tom grasped his cheek, smearing the blood across the right side of his face and onto his hand.
"You mess with him you mess with me."
"Annabeth, I will have hurt you if you get in my way."
"Give it your best shot."
Tom sneered and walked towards Annabeth.
"You could have taken my side. But no, you have to take your beloved boyfriends side don't you?"
"Hes not my boyfriend Cameron."
"I bet you want him to be though don't you, look how wonderful he is," Tom smiled, gesturing to Percy, laying on the floor, "How bold he is, not even standing up to take a hit for you, pathetic," Tom hit Percy on the head with his hilt, knocking him unconscious, "What a hero." He scoffed.
"He is a hero Cameron. Were you even there at last years battle against the titans?" Tom stood still, obviously he hadn't been. "I thought not."
"How you even have the nerve to bring it up." He scorned.
"I've had enough of this," Annabeth ran up to Tom, and poked her dagger underneath his chin. "You move and ill slit you." Tom gulped.
"Annabeth, we both know that that's an empty threat, and if you bother to lie again I will have to kill you."
"You're not in a position to be making threats Cameron."
"Oh, but I am." Tom nodded down. Annabeth saw that Tom had put his sword directly in front of her chest.
"Im not afraid to end your life Annabeth. I saw my brother die before my eyes. Death doesn't scare me. If anything, I welcome death. Whether I am the killer, or the victim." Tom smiled. Annabeth could tell he was telling the truth. Death didn't frighten him in the slightest.
"Let go on the count of three?"
"Interesting question. Why not?" Tom grinned.
"One."
"Two."
"THREE!" Percy yelled, he punched Tom in the stomach. Tom doubled over in pain, yet he laughed.
"Excellent! How bold Jackson."
"Stay away from us Cameron; you're as bad as Clarisse!" Percy shouted.
"Oh but im not. If anything, I can be worse," Tom stood up straight again and said "Until next time." He waved then walked of as if nothing had happened.
Percy and Annabeth walked out of the stables, hoping there wouldn't be a next time with Tom Cameron. They strolled hand in hand towards the beach, sitting down under a grand tree.
"You saved my neck. Thanks." Percy smiled.
"I do it all the time Seaweed Brain." Annabeth punched him in the shoulder playfully.
"Tell me though. Do you wish I was your boyfriend?"
"What?" Annabeth's playfulness was taken out of her in a snap.
"Do you?" Percy asked
"Percy I-" Percy leaned forward and kissed Annabeth, she returned it of course.
"Do you?" Percy asked again.
"Yes." Annabeth said, annoyed.
"Well, I think we'll have to make that wish reality? What'd you say?" Percy grinned.
"I couldn't say no to you Seaweed Brain." Annabeth leaned forward this time, locking Percy in the passionate kiss that both of them had waited for years.
Demigod dreams suck. See, mortals have dreams about, well, whatever and none of them are ever REAL, but we demigods, we don't dream about kittens, insane Japanese tv shows, sky jumping, and more. Because our dreams are real.
-DREAM-
I was walking along a stone corridor; there was no door or windows, it was just a stone tunnel leading to the unknown. The walls were mossy, and cold, I kept walking, for what felt like hours until I reached the end of the tunnel. There was a mirror, as I looked into it, I realised I was not me. I was Tom Cameron. But Cameron didn't stare at his reflection. He stepped into the giant mirror. This new corridor wasn't made of stone, it was made of glass. He kept walking along the corridor until he reached a small room. A Man with no hair at all (but you could see his veins all over his bald scalp, slits for eyes and nostrils, wearing a long black cloak his face looked almost snakelike, he was twiddling a twig in his hands at least that's what it looked like) was sitting in a glass armchair in the far right corner.
"I bring news." Said Cameron very kindly.
"What news?" Asked the man softly, in a very high pitched voice.
"Perseus Jackson is at Camp-half blood. A girl named Annabeth Chase means a lot to him." Said Cameron, bowing.
"Hmm, yes, yes, you have pleased your master. I would like you to, how shall I say this, befriend Annabeth Chase, lead her here. Then that will be the perfect bait for Jackson. Do not fail me. Or feel my wrath!" Said the man.
"Yes master." Bowing one more time then leaving.
-DREAM OVER-
The dream faded as fast as it had come, but it woke me up with a cold sweat upon my forehead.
Percy wasn't sure what to think. But one thing was etched clearly in his mind.
He had to find Annabeth.
He leapt out of his bed, pulled on some clothes at random and bolted out of the stone door. He rushed along the path. He knocked on the door. A young girl of who was about 13 years old opened the door to a frantic looking Percy.
"Why?" She asked, covering her mouth as she yawned.
"I need to speak to Annabeth." Percy murmured.
"This is the last time I do this for you Percy." The young girl walked off to go find Annabeth.
"Yes Seaweed Brain?" Annabeth asked when she saw it was Percy.
"We need to talk." Annabeth stepped outside her cabin's door, closed it behind her and walked beside Percy.
"Whats up Perce?" Annabeth asked.
"I had a dream."
"That it?"
"It wasn't a normal dream Annabeth." Percy explained what he could remember of his dream to a confused looking Annabeth.
"Are you sure it was Cameron?" Annabeth asked.
"No, it could have been anyone. I don't really remember."
"Don't really remember what?" a voice asked. Percy and Annabeth spun around to see Grover the satyr. His brown curly hair had gotten longer since they had seen him last. He'd gotten taller too.
"Grover?" Annabeth blinked
"Uh huh."
"Grover!" Percy tackled him with a hug, Annabeth soon joined in.
"Geez guys, when did you start dating?" Grover asked after the other two had let him go. Annabeth and Percy both looked at each other, blushing.
"How did you –"
"Body Language."
"Of course." Percy said sarcastically.
"You haven't answered my question."
"And im not going to."
"Be like that then, im going to the Big House anyway. Gonna get some shut eye. Bye guys. Wake you up in the morning with a loud scream."
"What?" Annabeth asked but Grover had already walked away.
"Well… Im going to lock my door tonight." Percy said, kissing Annabeth goodnight he walked back to his cabin. Completely forgetting about his dream.
"WAKE UP! HEY, YOU, JACKSON. GET YOUR LAZY TUSH UP AND OUT OF BED. CHIRON WANTS TO SEE YOU. HEY, LISTEN TO ME. GET OUT OF BED!" These are the words Percy woke up to in the morning.
"Gerrof me Grover." Percy opened his eyes, pushed Grover off of him and got dressed.
"You're a heavy sleeper." Grover chuckled.
"Huh?"
"I was yelling at you for ten minuets before you woke up."
"Awesome."
"Yeah well, I try." Grover smiled cheerily.
"So, why does ole Chiron want me?" Percy asked, walking past the open stone door which he had forgot to lock last night. Grover trotted along beside him.
"Something important."
"Brilliant. Just brilliant. How do I know its going to be a quest?"
"If it is. Make sure you bring this guy!" Grover ran off into the strawberry fields laughing.
"Wouldn't have it any other way G-Man." Percy muttered, smiling to himself. He knocked on the Big House's door and a man in a wheelchair with a blanket over his lap opened it.
"Percy, please, don't dilly dally on the front step. Come in." Chiron let Percy pass into the Big House, and then led him into one of the rooms that were almost empty if it hadn't been for a few bookshelves and arm chairs. Chiron gestured Percy to sit in a red one.
"You knew it was a quest?" Chiron asked.
"Im not as stupid as I act."
"Well, it is a quest. So obviously what you just said is the truth. First off. Do you accept the quest?"
"You're not even going to tell me what im agreeing to?"
"Not until I have your word you will carry the quest through."
"Chiron, you're asking a lot of me here." Percy said, frowning.
"I always do Percy. It's because your one of the most capable campers at Camp Half Blood."
"Fine, ill do it. Now will you tell me what it's about?" Percy asked
"Yes." Chiron smiled at him. He stood like that until Percy said
"Are you going to tell me or what?"
"Oh, you want me to tell you now?" Percy nodded "Oh okay then. It may take some time though."
"I have all the time in the world Chiron. Fire away."
"Alright then. Do you remember when I first told you that you were half Greek God half Mortal?"
"Pretty hard thing to forget. You basically told me I was part of another world."
"Well, there is another world. It is a Wizarding World. A world of magic and mystery."
"Is this just some world that Hecate created?" Asked Percy
"It has nothing to do with the Greeks Percy. This is a serious matter. This world helped create our world. The world of the Gods. This world is under threat of falling by a wizard named Lord Voldemort –"
"Can I have a picture of him?"
"No. Now Percy, if this Wizarding World falls. Our world falls. The God Prometheus read the future a few weeks ago. He said a single choice will either destroy the Wizarding World or save it. This choice will defiantly involve Harry James Potter, Hermione Jean Granger and Ronald Bilius Weasley. Lord Zeus then made a request for a quest to be carried out. Lord Zeus told me you had a part to play, not being that fond of you I knew the quest was serious. He told me that it would all become clear after the prophecy had been told."
"But Chiron. What if I'm not the one who's to make this choice?" Percy asked seriously.
"You may not be. But the people you choose might be."
"Alright Chiron. Let me get this straight. You're asking me to save the world. Again."
"Yes."
"Does this quest have a deadline?"
"Yes. A very long one though. As soon as this choice presents itself. You can come back."
"Fine, ill do it. But I want some blue soda."
"Go to Rachel. Tell her you seek a prophecy."
"Easy."
"Return after you have received it."
"Easy."
"Then you will sail to Britain."
"Not so easy."
Percy strolled up to Rachel Elizabeth Dare's cave, in the side of a hill, that was totally pimped out. Pretty awesome huh? Percy stopped outside the entrance and knocked. The door opened to reveal a red headed girl of Percy's age.
"How may I help you young Demi God?" Rachel said mystically, trying to not laugh.
"Well, I saved the world a few months ago and now Chiron wants me to save it again. I think I need counselling." Percy played along.
"But of course! Come on in young one." Rachel dramatically gesture for Percy to come in. Percy walked in and saw Annabeth sitting on the orange sofa. Percy remembered a few weeks ago, a few of the cabins had got together and had a party in Rachel's cave. It was on the bright orange sofa that Percy and Annabeth had almost kissed.
Flash Back
The music was raging loud, lucky that the cave was sound proof. Percy wasn't even sure how many cabins had been invited but there was at least three of them. People were dancing, drinking blue soda (Thanks to Percy) and just have a great time. Percy and Annabeth found themselves chilling on the orange sofa after dancing with each other.
"Annabeth you alright?" Percy yelled over the music.
"Fine!" she called back. Suddenly the music stopped, Rachel had turned it off and yelled.
"Percy! Annabeth! Kiss!" People started joining in with her chant. The pair of them both blushed furiously, yet they leaned forward but just before their lips touched a guy from the Hermes cabin poured blue coke over Percy's head laughing. The night ended in a massive food fight.
Flash Back Over
"What're you doing here Wise Girl?" Percy chuckled, sitting down on the couch and throwing his arm behind his girlfriend.
"Just catching up with our dear Oracle. Your excuse?"
"Quest." She looked at me seriously.
"Oooh is it a quest you seek Son of Poseidon? You must leave Annabeth; these things must take place in quiet situations!" Rachel intervened much to Percy's amusement. Annabeth was shoved out of the door and Rachel sat down next to Percy.
"Okay, seriously. You want a Prophecy?" Rachel said, becoming serious.
"Pretty much."
"You always do this to me. It's always yo-"Suddenly she flung herself forward and green mist started to pore from her eyes and mouth. She then said the following words extremely clearly in a very loud voice:
Four shall go on a journey for one,
An image formed in the green mist. Four people were hiking up a hill, Percy managed to make out himself, Annabeth, Grover and… Tom?
A golden cup of sport will be won,
The image shifted to Percy and Tom holding a golden cup, laughing at the top of their voices.
But a deadly foe will kill once more,
A white hand was holding a wand; it screamed a curse and deadly green light issued from it, Percy saw the green light travel through the air and hit a male figure who dropped down on the floor.
That leaves a son far worse than sore,
A man whom Percy couldn't identify was on his knees crying.
A promise to keep with a final breath,
The words "I promise" fluttered around the room.
Though winning a love before thy death.
Percy made sure he heard every word of the prophecy. He then propped Rachel up on her couch and set off to the Big House yet again. He made a mental note not to mention the last to lines of the prophecy though.
Chiron held a Council meeting right after Percy had returned with the prophecy.
Chiron sat at the head of the table, Percy and Annabeth either side of him. The leaders of each cabin sat around the table, though for some reason instead of Clarisse, Tom Cameron was sitting in the overlarge chair.
"Order!" Chiron barked, causing all the muttering to cease.
"Chiron sir, do we really need to be here?" Tom said loudly, to the applause of a few other leaders.
"Yes you do Tom, now quieten down or I will have to ask you to leave." That shut Cameron up. He sat down with an annoyed look on his sharp face.
"Percy would you like to tell them the prophecy that Miss Dare just gave you?" Chiron asked afterwards. Percy recited the prophecy, though he didn't say the last two lines.
"Hmm, alright. Choose your companions. Lord Zeus has said you are allowed one person extra."
"Annabeth. Grover… Tom."
"Im sorry what?" Tom sat forward, an amused expression on his cold face.
"Come with me on this quest Tom."
"Say please and ill think about it." Tom said, he loved being in control this one.
"Come on this quest with me please."
"Sure Percy. And remember. It never does one any favours forgetting their manors." Tom smiled a wicked smile. Percy knew he shouldn't have asked Tom, but he had this gut feeling he was the one to make the decision Chiron said they would all meet at Thaila's pine tree tomorrow morning. Annabeth told Percy she needed to see Rachel so she kissed him goodbye, though just after Annabeth left, Tom rounded on Percy.
Percy had been cleaning his room, and throwing the garbage out behind his cabin, so no one knew they were there.
"So, Percy. Why'd you do it?" Tom asked quite seriously
"Because I did."
"That's not a proper answer."
"Then whats your definition of a proper answer?"
Tom started at Percy, his eyes filled with frustration and… Sadness?
"Do you have Dreams Percy?" Tom asked, breaking the silence.
"Don't we all?" Percy chuckled
"I mean vivid dreams. Dreams you think are real? Dreams, which on some scale, are real?"
"Why Cameron?"
"Because I do too Percy." Tom said sympathetically
"You – You do?" raised an astounded Percy
"I do, every night. Percy, im sorry we got off to a bad start. How about we put the water under the bridge and move on?"
"Well, it never does anyone good to hold a grudge… Alright. Fine, water is under the bridge." Percy shook Tom's hand smiling. Tom's fingers were ice cold, as if he had never felt warm in his life. Tom pulled his hand back quickly and smiled.
"So, Tom. Who's your Godly parent?" Percy asked
"Ares. When I was younger I thought it was Hades though. Because death has never scared me, so I thought, maybe its Hades because hes god of the Underworld and all."
"Do you have any…? Special powers?" Percy asked
"Er, yeah. I can…make people… Angry. I can… bend the situation to how I want it to go." Tom smiled slyly
"How?"
"I think. All I have to do is: Think where I want the conversation to end up. I can make anyone kiss me, even if they are my mortal enemy. It's weird. But… Very useful."
"That's cool man; I just have control over the sea."
"That's pretty awesome mate. Well, ill see you in the morning for the quest. Let's pray we don't die." Tom waved then walked away.
Percy woke up bright eyed in the morning; thankfully Grover wasn't there to give him a wake up call. He packed his bag with all Demi-God essentials; he then washed and put on fresh clothes (A Sea green hoodie and dark jeans). He then hiked up the hill and had one last look of Camp Half Blood.
I may never come back. Was his final thought before he turned around and saw Tom looking at him. Tom was wearing a simple white t-shirt with a black leather jacket. His grey eyes stared at Percy intently with a hint of amusement in his them.
"Good Morning." Percy yelled over the wind
"What do you mean?" he said. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?"
"Er, all of them at once?" Percy stuttered. Tom laughed hysterically.
"So, Tom, your British right?" Asked Percy, walking over to meet him.
"I… have British blood yes." He said smiling, though the smile did not go to his eyes. His eyes had gone darker now, as if he didn't want to talk about it. So Percy let it drop. Annabeth soon arrived. She looked stunning as usual. But something had been playing on Percy's mind so he asked Annabeth if he could have a word.
"Im sorry for what im about to say." Percy murmured, truly sorry
"Then… don't say it?" Annabeth suggested
"I have to. I don't think we should date until we get back from the quest. Its just gonna complicate stuff."
"I agree." Annabeth nodded
"You – You do?" Percy asked, astounded
"Defiantly, just one last kiss." They leaned forward and shared one last kiss before Grover turned up, bouncing for joy.
"Let's get going then aye?" He yelled
"Yeah, Chiron's meant to be here by now." Speak of the centaur; Chiron was galloping up to the hill. He gave them all two potions each (Except Grover who got three) He explained what each one was. The dark blue potion made them wizards until the counter potion was drunk. The white one gave them six years of magical experience. And the one that was given extra to Grover was a bright pink one that would take away all of his goatly features for a good ten years. Chiron said his goodbyes, gave them a key each and told them a boat was waiting for them.
They arrived at the Dock soon enough, Percy and Annabeth did feel a bit awkward but they both knew it was for the best. Tom and Percy were on much better terms now, though Annabeth still had doubts about him.
"Hes just… different!" Annabeth whispered once they had found their sailing boat and set off. It was quite small, yet big enough to hold all of them very comfortably.
"Look, hes a nice guy. Just give him a chance." Percy pleaded in a hushed tone
"He hit you round the face with a sword!"
"He said he was sorry! You have to forgive and forget if we want to move on! Just give it a rest Annabeth." Thus ended the conversation. Tom was at the front, sitting on the side of the boat with his long legs dangling off and the wind sweeping in his hair. He was just staring into the sea, as if he could see something they couldn't. Tom's eyes were still filled with the sadness and remorse Percy had seen when he had apologized.
"Hey man." Percy said cheerfully, sitting next to Tom on the edge of the boat.
"Hello."
"Whats up? You look sad."
"Nothing." Tom shook his head
"Don't lie."
"I said nothing." He said with a hint of anger in his voice. Tom turned around and flung himself onto the deck and walked over to the other side. Annabeth soon joined him on the side.
"Are you alright?" She asked kindly
"Im fine," He said, turning his head towards her "I wish everyone would stop asking."
"We're worried about you. You're our friend now; we don't want you to be upset."
"Im not upset! Im just thinking okay?"
"Alright then if you're sure."
"I am." He smiled
"So, what do you know about this wizard stuff?" Annabeth asked
"Nothing ne - really." He caught himself
"Well, it's going to be a very long way to England best get comfortable."
