Annabelle was an average girl living in Australia, one of the only places left in the word with some type of fauna, however although her living situations were better than most, she still was not safe… her mother had died from cancer when she was seven, leaving her and her father alone. Her father, although a hardworking and highly accomplished man, was not a good father figure. He beat her, because she reminded him of his late wife. Annabelle aspired for nothing more than to get away from her abusive father, so when she heard about the avatar program she was ecstatic. She however did not go to college or university, she didn't even finish high school, as it turned out her father was even more ecstatic to get rid of her, as he took out all of his savings and paid for her to go, it was the only time she was really glad that man was her father.
I was in another training session with Tsu'Tey, I was supposed to be tracking him, but I lost him a few hours ago. My luck of finding him or home tree before dark was little to none. This is so typical of me, can't do anything right. Wasn't a good enough daughter, no wonder mum left me and I certainly deserved everything dad did to me. Maybe I shouldn't have come here, I mean the only thing I do is annoy Tsu'Tey. Looking around once more I decided just to give up, sitting on a low branch against the trunk I wrapped my arms around my waist, I still am not used to being exposed so much.
Closing my eyes I let my head fall back. Before I knew it I was back in my room on earth, my father looming over me, belt in hand. "Get up!" he demanded reaching for my hair, standing up quickly I braced myself against the wall. Reefing my hair he turned me around and pulled my shirt up, clenching my eyes shut I winced as the black leather marred my skin, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12… I could feel the blood trickling down my back. "Annabelle!" I was awoken by my name being called, startled I fell off of the branch I was sitting in.
Breathing heavily I held my hand to my chest, "Tsu'Tey…" he was looking down at me in confusion. "What has you so scared nì'awve tanhì (First Star)?" He asked using the pet name he had given me, I still don't understand it but he wouldn't tell me what it meant. "Nothing, nothing… just a dream…" I said shaking my head as I stood up, I jumped up placing myself on the branch once again. Coming to stand in front of me he still towered over me, his eyes still showed confusion "I thought you could not dream away from your sky person body?" he asked, my eyes widened in realization "I didn't either…" I whispered letting my head drop. I had learned that to the Na'vi people it meant submission, but I was a hard habit to stop, looking in my father's eyes wasn't allowed he said my eyes were too like mums. I flinched as Tsu'Tey brought his hand up towards me, his movements halted as I did so, his eyes locking with mine asking a silent question. An atokirina' floated down towards his hand, and landed there for only a moment before floating away again.
"Maybe we should get back?" I asked sliding down off the branch making me level with his chest. "What do you mean nì'awve tanhì we haven't finished training." He frowned at me. Shrugging I leant against the tree branch, I didn't know how we were going to train it was already sunset. "Come, I have something to show you." Was all he said before walking off into a denser part of the luminescent forest. I followed hastily not wanting to get lost; I followed the glowing patterns of Tsu'Tey's back and the playful flicker of his tail.
