Until Tomorrow

Lily/James

"For the last time, Potter, I will NOT go on a date with you!" Lily Evans, head girl, screeched, startling a first-year who happened to be walking by. James Potter, arrogant fool he was, stared at her pleadingly.

"Please, my Lily flower?" he begged, giving her puppy-dog eyes. She rolled her own.

"I'm not falling for it James, and I am NOT your Lily flower!" She folded her arms across her chest. "How'd you ever make head boy?" she wondered, scoffing at the thought. "When will you ever get it through your head that I'm not interested? You could die, for all I care, and I still wouldn't go out with you!" Ignoring the hurt expression on his face, she continued, "You could be the last guy on earth and I wouldn't go out with you! For Merlin's sake, Potter, just leave me alone!"

With that, she turned and stormed off, leaving the head boy , seemingly crushed, behind her. She found her best friend, Marlene McKinnon, waiting for her just around the corner.

"How could you be that mean?" she demanded. "Lils, you can see how much that guy adores you! He's been after you for years! If you'd only give him a chance... he's a great guy, really."

Lily pulled a face. "Are you sure we're talking about the same James Potter here?"

"I'm sure!" Marlene reassured with a laugh. "Seriously, though, go back there and apologize. You should also agree to go on a date with him." At Lily's glare, she added, "Just one! One date and you never have to go out with him again!"

"Ugh, fine!" Lily sighed. "Just remember, though, this was your idea!" She turned around and stomped off to find James. She finally found him sitting with his friends, Sirius, Remus and Peter on the stairs. "James?" she called. He looked up, upset and angry.

"What do you want?" he called, and Lily heard the tone of voice of someone who was trying not to cry. "Come to be mean again?"

"No, actually," Lily said. "I... I've come to say sorry, for what I said. That was really uncalled for." She sighed, biting her lip in an anxious way. "And..."

"And what?" Sirius Black- the idiot- prompted.

"And I've come to say... I'll go on a date with you." At once, his depressed expression turned to one of ecstasy.

"R-Really?" he stammered. "Y-You mean it?"

"Well, I'm not joking, if that's what you mean."

James let out a cry of delight as his friends clapped his back, grinning. "That's great! Tonight, at eleven. Meet me at the entrance hall."

"That's after curfew!" Lily protested. "Do you know how much trouble we'll be in if we get caught?"

He groaned. "Alright, then, Evans, tomorrow at noon good enough for ya?"

Lily nodded with a smile. "Call me Lily," she told him. "So, until tomorrow then?"

He nodded. "I'll count the seconds!" he exclaimed. "One... two... three..."

Lily shook her head and walked away, but not before seeing Sirius Black mouth 'thank you' at her.
