Will You Stay?

Summary: Sofia ponders on the holiday season. *Based on a song called "Christmas, Will You Stay?" by Laura Osnes*)

Disclaimer: I own neither the show nor the song on which the story title is based. 😊

A/N: If you're looking for a beautiful, feel-good, fluffy, Disney-esque quality song to listen to for Christmas, listen to "Christmas, Will You Stay?" by Laura Osnes (written by Michael Mott). If you've read my story "Dare to Dream" or seen the video I made based on the story, it's the same singer. She's got a very Disney-like quality to her voice, so it just makes you feel happy when you listen to her sing. Haha. Or at least that's the case for me… Anyway, this is a 'pondering' type of story, so Sofia will be doing a bit of thinking here. Enjoy!

*Story*

Sofia curled up against a stack of pillows in her window seat, her head leaning against the wall as she watched the quiet snow tumbling to the ground below. She loved the peaceful aspect of snow. It was soft and gentle, yet it never made a sound. It could blanket an entire kingdom quickly and without intrusion, but you'd never know it unless you were actually there to witness it most of the time. Still, she was grateful for the snow. Wassailia wouldn't be Wassailia without it, in her opinion.

The wind gently blew some of the branches outside her window, the icicles dangling from them barely clinging together and shimmering in the moonlight. This was the scene she loved to see during this time of the year. She'd waited for it all this time, and yet…

Sofia sighed. Sometimes, all that waiting for the day was more exciting than actually arriving to the day itself. Because once it was over… To her, leaving Wassailia behind was difficult. All that love and energy, and all the smells and sounds of the season, didn't necessarily disappear once the holiday was over, but they certainly diminished in some capacity. She didn't want that to happen this year. She wanted it to keep going.

"Will you stay a little longer, Wassailia?" she murmured sleepily as her eyes shifted to the moon high above. "Please?"

In truth, the princess didn't mind the holiday ending. Every good thing had to come to an end so that it could be built up again for the next time, but still, she didn't think it was too much to want the feeling of Wassailia to stay with her a bit longer. She loved the laughter, the smiles, the togetherness, the atmosphere of the season, and she didn't want to let it go.

There was something about Wassailia that brought out the wonder and innocence of everyone again—even the adults. The way her parents' eyes lit up at the sight of a beautifully-wrapped gift dedicated to them, the way Chef Andre laughed in merriment when people appreciated his seasonal treats, the way Cedric and Wormwood sang carols at the top of their lungs when they thought no one was near the workshop door…

Sofia giggled at that thought. That, as a matter of fact, had just happened last night when she'd gone to ask him a favor. She'd never seen her mentor and his raven so flustered before, and she couldn't help it. She'd cracked up laughing and assured them that their singing was just great. She wasn't lying—they had good voices. Granted, the overdramatic nature of the singing made it all the more amusing.

"Hmm, maybe it doesn't have to end," she murmured as she pulled a blanket around her, eyes growing heavy. "I just need to…" She yawned quietly. "…to keep the feeling alive." She smiled tiredly. "Yeah, I think that's what I'll…do…" With that, she drifted off to sleep, the snow continuing to fall to the earth below.
