A/N.: What if the whole Kylo and Rey fighting scene ended differently? AU, obvious spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi/ I do not ship Reylo but I'm all in for that Kylo-and-Rey-Partners-in-Crime thing. I think they fit together perfectly as friends, kind of in a yin and yang style
Disclaimer: No, I don't own Star Wars, it all belongs to Disney and George Lucas.
The fought, strived, battled the Guards until the last remains of their enemies laid scattered on the ground. With a swish both turned of their lightsabers and faced each other, just for a second, before one turned away. Kylo Ren walked towards the two parts of his former master, who tried to manipulate him until the very end.
'Ben.'- The soft voice of his new-found friend echoed through the room, trying to tear him away from the body.
'The Supreme Leader is dead', he answered, his dark voice booming through the nearly empty room.
'Ben. Don't do this. Please!' Rey addressed him again while slowly walking towards him. He did not respond this time and continued striding around in the throne room.
For a brief moment, she could see his thoughts through the force bond: A huddled mess of of darkness, anger, pain, despair; yet there was a small beacon of light shining through the darkness. And with all her remaining strength, she pulled at it.
Her partner stopped dead in his tracks and blinked, once, twice, then he slowly turned back to Rey. Both could feel the immense light and images flood their minds:
General Leia, waiting for her lost son to return;
Master Luke, sorry he didn't try harder to bring Ben Solo back;
Han and Chewbacca on the Millennium Falcon, being totally and utterly in awe about their ship, their home;
Finn and Poe, Rey's new friends at the Resistance Base.
All the light, the laughter, the love.
Her legs were buckling under the immense power of the bond and Rey sank to her knees, exhausted from her effort to bring her new partner back to her, back to light. She did not know if it worked or if she was about to get killed any moment as the sound of heavy boots filled the room.
But there was no flash of red, no lightsaber, no pain. Rey could feel he was back and in her mind, she whispered 'Ben.'
When she looked up, a hand covers in a black glove was extended to her. 'Come.'
She looked at the hand, at him and took it.
