Better Days Are Ahead
Alfred sat before the T.V., listening to the debate between some of the presidential candidates. The more he listened, the sicker he became. Some of the ideas they spoke of...these were not his ideas! Alfred looked around hurriedly as he tasted bile in his mouth. He needed a trashcan or something because things were about to get real ugly.
"Easy there, mate," Arthur said in his usual clipped accent as he switched off the T.V. "I think that is enough for today." He held out a mug to Alfred. "Drink this. It will help."
Alfred took the mug, eying its contents warily. "Dude, not some of your tea!"
"Chamomile tea," Arthur noted as he lifted his tea cup from its saucer. "Good for the nerves. Trust me."
Alfred scowled at Arthur, then took a sip of the tea. Deciding that it wasn't that bad after all, he drank a little bit more. Cradling the mug, Alfred turned to Arthur.
"I can't believe what some of those people say on T.V., man! They would rather see a man die in the hospital with no care than receive treatment and recover if he has no insurance! One of their own citizens!" Alfred gestured angrily at the T.V. "My people refuse to take care of each other and they bicker worse than you and France, no offense dude. I'm supposed to be the hero, but I can barely walk these days because of all my blisters!" Alfred set his mug on the coffee table before him, then put his head in his hands.
His people were supposed to be the best, the richest. Yet for some strange reason, there were people without homes and homes without people. His people were hungry, yet there was plenty of food. His people were sick, without hope for recovery even though he spent more money on health than most other nations. His leaders, the ones who were supposed to be some of the best and brightest people in the land, refused to compromise and continuously misled the people.
Arthur walked over to Alfred and squeezed his shoulder in a comforting manner. As an older nation, Arthur had witnessed much. Not so long ago, Arthur too had been young. He knew what it was like to see the land he loved be so torn apart. Yet somehow, his people always managed to do the right thing in the end. Arthur had faith that Alfred's people would be that way too.
"Hang in there, young chap," Arthur said encouragingly. "These times may be tough but better days are ahead."
Alfred turned to look at his friend standing behind him and nodded slightly, though his face expressed skepticism.
"Better days are ahead. You will see."
Notes: I do not own Hetalia. I just like borrowing some characters and ideas. ^_^
I have been quite perplexed by the way things have been going in the U.S. for sometime and this work is a response to some of these happenings. I don't mean to offend anyone...I just hope everyone everywhere will ultimately do the right thing. It is my hope that leaders everywhere will act in the best interests of their people.
Thanks for reading. Any feedback is appreciated because I am rather new to Hetalia and I always seek to improve! :D
