"What made you do it, Jem?" Bombalurina asked her daughter as they made their way back to their den after they'd watched Grizabella go up to the Heaviside Layer.

"Hmm?" Jemima's mind was on Pouncival, he'd danced and flirted with her during the Jellicle ball and she was wondering if he'd call round at her and her parent's den. But, due to Macavity being around, the young cat doubted that her mother wouldn't like the idea.

"Singing with Grizabella. Being the first to reach out to her." Bomba explained.

"Oh... I don't know, really." The young cat replied, jumping over a nettle patch. "I felt a connection with her, I guess. She's my Grandmother, after all. Don't you feel like that? She's your Mum."

The elder scoffed. "I was lucky at all to even see my mother when I was young. She was too busy living the high life in London."

"Oh, sorry." Jemima said, dipping her head.

"Hey, chin up." The elder reassured her daughter. "You still haven't answered my question properly."

Jemima cleared her throat. "Well mum, sometimes in life you have to look at a person with a fresh perspective. You have to put yourself in their shoes, so to speak. Grizebella looked so upset, and she was clearly sorry for everything... I felt compelled to sing something."

"That's quite deep." Bombalurina chuckled as they entered their den. "Anyway, bed time for you young lady. I think that Auntie Dem dropped you off some tuna, it should be next to your bed."

"Yay!" Said Jemima happily. "Night night Mum." She said, giving her mum a kiss on the cheek.

"Night, I love you." Bomba smiled.

"I love you too." Jemima grinned, before making her way into her room.

Bombalurina had something to eat herself, and then made her way into her and Tugger's room.

Her mate was already there, half asleep.

"Hello." He murmured as Bomba snuggled into him, purring contentedly.

"Hi." She replied, giving him a kiss. "Our daughter is quite philosophical, you know." She informed him.

"I always said that she got her brains from you. She inherited her good looks from me, of course." Tugger boasted.

"Yes dear." The female chuckled. "She was saying about how she forgave Grizabella..."

"When she sung, you mean?"

"Mm hmm." Bomba nodded. "She definitely made me think. I'll go and talk to Dad tomorrow, learn a bit more about her."

Tugger gave her a kiss. "Okay. I wonder if you'll recognise your Mum after she's reborn?"

"Aha, we'll see!"

With that, the two cats fell asleep, safe in each other's embrace.
