She's an angel, he decides one day, watching the general as she strode down the lines of soldiers, a bloodstained angel of war. Peace didn't suit her, as even he could see how restless she had been in the year since his ascension to the throne of Edolas. But now that the kingdom of Diorne was threatening the safety of his nation, she was the best weapon he had at his disposal. A sad smile crossed his lips at that thought. If there was one thing he hated, it was risking the life of those he cared about. And, though his relationship with Erza Knightwalker could be a bit shaky, he didn't want to see her hurt. After all, she was one of the few at court that he could trust to tell him the truth, even when he didn't want to hear it.
A wry laugh escaped the king's mouth. There were times he felt she enjoyed telling him what he didn't want to hear. He could still see the smirk that would appear whenever that happened. Yes, she got a kick out of knocking him down a couple pegs, but he knew she wouldn't do anything to hurt Edolas. She loved her nation, more than anything else. More than anyone else. It was for Edolas that she fought, and he knew she was willing to die for her. After all, that was what she said when he had made her promise to not take any unnecessary risks while she was gone, dismissing every worry he had with words of how this was what she had been trained for.
Sometimes he couldn't believe how smart she was when it came to military matters, and so dense when there were other things at play. But… He wouldn't have her any other way.
AN 1: One of these days, I will choose one characterization of Mystogan, and stick with it.
AN 2: Also, I need to stop listening to "Angel With A Shotgun" by The Cab. Awesome song, but I've been playing it non-stop for a while. xD
