From the edge of the woods Renaee was watching the young girl Lucy McNeil as she walked back into the tower, she looked upset. Of course she had every reason to be, she had just been told that her father, a legendary swordsman, had been killed by the Kalkara. Being 7 years old, and with no remaining family as far she knew, she would be sent to one of the kingdoms wards. Life as a ward would be pretty boring for a girl like Lucy. She had been trained in swordsmanship ever since she could walk, and she had spent her life touring the country with her father.
However Ranaee was there to make sure that such good young talent wasn't wasted. She was one of the best sword marsters in the kingdom it was said that she had never been beaten and was the only one to have ever defeated her father. Renaee was the leader of a secret force known as the hunters, similar to the ranger corps, apart from the fact that they were exclusively female.
The hunters had had their eyes on Lucy for some time, planning to take her on as an apprentice at the age of 15. That was the standard age for an apprentice, but if they didn't take her now, she would be sent other places and they would never get the promising young girl.
Ranaee watched the tower that Lucy lived in, and was surprised when a small figure with a pack emerged and ran into the woods. Lucy was running away. Unknown to Lucy, she secretly followed the young girl for some hours until the girl sat down to rest. She startled Lucy when she approached however Ranaee had been looking after the girl while she was on the road ever since she was born
An hour later everything had been explained to Lucy and the hunters had a new apprentice amongst them.
