Well, this little episode pretty much blew any fantasies I might have had about Higher Ground/Criminal Minds out the door... but it's okay. Because it was awesome. Not just the JJ story. The entire episode was cool. Garcia 'interrogating'... that detective woman... Christopher... yeah. Good episode. So I just wrote this little thing, it's not anything special, but I was wondering if nobody would notice JJ's state as she walked back from that kitchen to the others... and this arose. Enjoy!

As she walked back from the little kitchen, she looked at her.

Emily looked at her. And in one moment, JJ knew that Emily had seen her red eyes, heard her slip-ups, sensed her story. Emily knew.

How could she not? She was a profiler, after all; trained to read people. And even though they all tried to avoid it, they profiled each other, too. That was why, even though she was not a profiler, she had tried to give Hotch some solace. Because he was struggling, and she was too, but she thought maybe she could share some of her knowledge.

It was no lie. It did get easier... but it never went away. She hadn't told him that.

Emily stood up, and joined JJ on the couch. It was away from the others; Reid, who was staring at a wooden little object, and Morgan, who had put his headphone back on. Garcia was knitting –when had she learned to do that? – Rossi was doing God knew what. Hotch was not really doing anything, but she knew his mind was far away.

Great.

As Emily joined her, she shifted a little, automatically. Emily apparently wasn't sure how to start, so they both remained silent for a while.

"Nice necklace," Emily finally broke the silence. JJ absent-mindedly fingered the little wooden figure around her neck.

"Thanks," she said. There was another silence, another moment of this amical, friendly atmosphere she had with Emily. Then: "It was my sister's."

Emily nodded, but didn't say anything else. JJ figured she probably already knew, given the way she had acted, the persistence that they needed to go to Wyoming. And her comment on the way to Wyoming had done little to ease the suspicion.

"I'm sorry," she finally said. Her voice was soft, but sincere.

JJ nodded, knowing she was speaking the truth.

"So am I."

And before I forget, Criminal Minds belongs to... I don't know, CBS or something? but not me.
