Hey, readers! This is my first fanfic, so feel free to give me feedback. Thanks!
"Ok, Stilinski. You've got this." Stiles repeated to himself as he walked up to Lydia's front door. Stiles was on a mission. Since the past year was filled with non-stop supernatural action - druids, banshees, kitsunes/nogitsunes, berserkers, and a slew of assassins, Stiles was determined to help Lydia take her mind off all the stress and loss that had occurred over the past year. He wanted to give her a day, just one day, where she could have fun, smile, maybe even laugh. God, he missed her laugh.
When Stiles got to Lydia's front door, he ended his pep talk and knocked. A distracted Lydia answered, her nose deep in what looked like a graduate level thermodynamics textbook. Stiles stood there in silence watching as her eyes flitted over the page, her face briefly scrunched in confusion, and then opened up as she began to understand whatever concept she was reading about. As Stiles watched Lydia read, he had a feeling. A hunch that he could never tire of this; just being around Lydia, sharing a space with her, watching her excitement as she learns something new. At that moment, Stiles thought that he could spend the rest of his life with this girl. After a few seconds, Lydia looked up from the book, her eyes lighting up as she saw Stiles. "Hey, Stiles. Sorry I'm a little distracted. I just got this book that takes a completely new approach to Onsager's reciprocal relations theory and it's really fascinating… sorry. You probably don't care about Onsager," she said, noticing Stiles's look of confusion.
"What? Oh, well, it's not that I don't care about him. I just don't really know who he is. Maybe you can tell me about him on the way to our mystery destination."
"Our mystery destination?" Lydia smiled. "You're taking me to Patty's Put-Put Emporium, aren't you?"
Stiles gasped. "How did you know that?"
"You're always talking about Patty's Put-Put Emporium. It sounds like you spent 90 percent of your childhood there." Lydia said, as she set her book down and put on her jacket. Stiles was still trying to overcome his shock, which was partly due to Lydia figuring out his secret plan so quickly, and partly because he never realized that she paid such close attention to his ramblings.
Overcoming his surprise, Stiles blurted out, "Well, yeah. I talk about it because it's AMAZING. Plus, I haven't been there in years, so it gives me major nostalgia feelings."
"Well we can't deprive you of nostalgia, now can we?" Lydia said playfully.
"Definitely not." Stiles said, smiling. "We better get going. I don't want to miss out on a single second of Zero Spooky Shenanigans Day."
"Zero Spooky Shenanigans Day?" Lydia repeated, looking up at Stiles.
"Yes. It's a new holiday I invented just for us." Stiles explained, "A day where we don't have to worry about kanimas or werewolves or unicorns…"
"I think I get the picture," Lydia said, smiling. "But does it have to be such a mouthful?"
"We can call it ZSSD for short," Stiles offered as he held the passenger door to his Jeep open for Lydia. "Now you were gonna tell me about this Openburg guy?"
"Onsager," Lydia corrected as Stiles started the Jeep. "Lars Onsager."
"Lars?" Stiles snorted. "That's a terrible scientist name."
"It is not! Besides, the Nobel Prize committee clearly thought it was a great name since they awarded him the Prize in 1968 for his work in chemistry…" Lydia began her thorough biography of the scientist's life while Stiles listened, thinking that her voice was the most beautiful thing he has ever heard.
The two were so content, so wrapped in each other, that they didn't notice the sleek black SUV that began following them down the road.
Ooh, cliffhanger ending... more to come soon!
