Disclaimer: I'm not J.K. Rowling. I'm just having some fun with her characters. :)

It was ten o'clock at night on the 24th of July; Beth's birthday. She walked into the now deserted kitchen and made herself a cup of hot chocolate.

"I bet if anyone saw me right now, they would think I'm insane for drinking hot chocolate on a summer night," Beth thought to herself.

As she walked by the kitchen window, she saw someone sitting out on the porch. When she walked towards the bench and discovered that it was Charlie who was up.

"Hey Charlie," she said softly as she sat down next to him.

"Hey Beth. Tomorrow's a big day. Why aren't you sleeping?" he asked.

"I couldn't sleep," she shrugged.

"Are you excited to see David?"

"Yes and no," she sighed. "Yes, I'm excited because I haven't seen him in ages. And no because before they d-died, David refused to speak to me."

"Why?" he asked. "Wait. You don't have to answer that."

"No, it's okay. You'll actually like his reason why he won't speak to me," she smiled. It was the first time she truly smiled in days.

"The reason why he won't talk to me is because I've seen four real live dragons before he did."

Charlie laughed at this. "So I'm going to assume that David likes dragons?"

"Oh, I would he's obsessed with dragons. I remember my dad told me that his first word that he ever said was dragon," she deadpanned.

"My dad said that David had this stuffed toy dragon that they bought him one day, and that it was always by his side," she explained.

"Sweet Merlin," Charlie said in disbelief.

They sat in companionable silence for a few minutes. Then Beth broke the silence.

"Charlie, could you do something for me?" she asked.

"Sure. Anything for the birthday girl," He said with a smile.

"Well, it's not really for me, it's for David, but in the long run it will benefit me as well," she explained.

"Could you tell David some of your experiences with dragons to him? It would help cheer him up."

"Yeah, I can do that," he said.

"There's one other thing. David's starting Hogwarts in September, and I'll know for a fact that he'll feel left out when all of the other kids get mail from their parents. So I was wondering if you could maybe-"

"Write him letters every once in a while. I can do that, too. It will be nice writing a letter to someone else other than Mum," he smiled.

"You promise?" she asked.

"I promise," he said.

"Thanks Charlie."

"No problem, kiddo. Hey, it's the middle of July, why are you drinking hot chocolate?" he said with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, I make myself some hot chocolate when I can't fall asleep at night. It usually helps me go back to sleep, no matter what month it is," she said with a yawn.

"I think I'm going to go to bed now. I'll leave a light on in the kitchen for you. Good night Charlie, and thanks again," she said as she stood up from the bench and walked towards the door.

"Good night, kiddo."

A/N: So what do you think? I'm probably going to make a sequel to this, but it's not going to be up for a while... Review please. :)
